i yawned as i fell out of my bed, still exhausted. i stayed up all night watching every stranger things crack video i could find and my mom was trying to wake me up. then i realized what today was.

"mom!" i shrieked, getting to my feet. i slipped on my blanket, landing on my face. i tried again, more careful this time.

"mom! mom guess what!" i yelled, running down the stairs two at a time.

"what is it, hun?" she asked. i plopped down on the kitchen counter, grinning broadly.

"i go to millie's today," i gushed. she chuckled and shook her head.

"the perks of having a lesbian daughter," she said sarcastically. i rolled my eyes and hopped off the counter, taking one of her homemade cookies with me to my room.

"stop stealing my cookies!" the woman shouted after me. i laughed as i slid down the hallway in my socks.

how crude. why would anyone say something like that toward aly? aly was perfect. absolutely flawless. i shook the thought from my head. i was not gay. no way. definitely not.

millie: how did you guys figure out you were gay?

jack: ahh, the most important question in history.

noah: i looked at jack.

jack: well i always knew ig. i just sort of went "oh dudes are hot"

noah: i was different from finn. i kinda fell in love with him and then i spent two days and six tubs of ice cream brooding over it

millie: well i've only got a week with her

i looked at millie. she was so beautiful. her brown hair was styled down to the last hair and her brown eyes were framed by mascara-coated lashes. i could see the faint beginnings of a zit beneath her tanned foundation, but she still looked perfect.

she was so out of my league. i would never amount to this beauty in front of me, no matter how hard i may try. as i gazed at this girl in the park while we waited on our mcdonald's, i realized that i was in over my head.

"you're very pretty, you know that?" millie commented, her voice breaking me from my thoughts. she seemed to realize that she'd said it allowed as her face burned a bright red.

"i-i mean, in a totally straight way," she gushed. i laughed quietly. she definitely didn't mean it in a straight way.

"it's okay to be gay, mils," i commented, tapping my nose. she looked down at her fingers as her dad approached us.

"alright kiddos. we have been served," he said cheerfully, setting our mcdonald's down on the table. he then walked with his and millie's mom's food to their table. i grabbed my twenty piece chicken mcnuggets and pulled them toward me, opening the little box and eating a few. our table was awkwardly silent as we ate, and i set my food down with a sigh.

"millie, you don't have to be embarrassed," i stated, reaching over the table to grab her hand.

"i'm not embarrassed, aly. i'm just... conflicted," she explained in a mumbled, repeatedly dunking a fry in her ketchup. i smiled slightly and squeezed her hand before letting go. before i could drop my hand under the table, she grabbed it and set our hands on the table. i pulled out my phone and snapped a quick picture, then shoved it back into my pocket.
