We just got home from church. I quickly run to my room and change out of my church clothes. I put on some play clothes and go downstairs for lunch.
"Mama, What's for lunch?" I ask hoping she made my favorite meal; fried chicken with mash potatoes.
"I made you a sandwich cause you said you were going to Cliff and Jacob's house. I figured you could eat it on the way." Mama says with that beautiful smile she always has after church.
"Okay. Thankyou. I'm gonna go ahead and go now if you don't mind?" I ask mama waiting for a response.
"Alright you go ahead and be safe now. Watch for cars." Mama says giving me a big,warm, and comforting hug.
"I will!" I say grabbing my sandwich and heading out the front door.
I'm so excited to go to Cliff and Jacob' house again today! We have been friends for awhile now. Hopefully I don't get hit with the ball again today. I was so caught up in my thought I realized I was standing at the baseball field all by myself for about an hour. Where are Jacob and Cliff? They should be here by now. I decide to go looking for them.
I start walking towards their house. After about 10 minutes I finally get to the big blue house and go up to the front door. At first I was going to knock but then I decide to ring the doorbell. DING DONG! DING DONG! I rang it twice just to be sure they heard me.
The front door opens and a middle aged white women walks out.
"Hello! How are you today mam?" I say in a very pleasant tone.
"Young man, Who are you and why are you here?" She spat back at me very rudely.
"I'm Jacob and Cliff's friends Micheal. They were supposed to meet me at the baseball field an hour ago, So I decided to come looking for them." I say back still being very respectful.
"Oh no, no, no! MICHEAL MY CHILDREN WILL NOT BE COMING OUT TO PLAY WITH YOU TODAY OR ANY OTHER DAY BECAUSE WE ARE WHITE AND YOU ARE BLACK!!!" She shouts at me in a way I don't even think is possible. I see Jacob and Cliff standing behind her crying. I just turn around and run back home.
