Mikaela was a foreign exchange student and he didn't exactly fit in with everyone else, but, that was already expected. It was the norm for the new students, especially foreigners, to be viewed and treated differently at the beginning. He was a really quiet and shy boy, which made it even harder for him to go approach people, let alone make friends and the slight language barrier didn't exactly help either.
When he walked into the classroom for the first time he felt all the hard, judgemental stares he received from all the other students. He immediately tensed up, clutched his backpack straps with a very tight grip and began to look at the ground with such an intensity that could drill holes into you. He just stood in the same spot until the teacher of the class came over and told him to introduce himself. Continuing to stare at the cold, marble floor, Mikaela managed to barely stutter out in Japanese, "M-My n-n-name is Mikaela."
He heard a few giggles and snickers about his pronunciation and struggle to say a basic sentence in Japanese. His face burst into a bright red, he was extremely embarrassed and hurt too, he felt like bawling his eyes out. He was quite sensitive and never took instances like this well. As a few tears began to form at corners of his eyes, he sprinted to the washroom and rushed into the nearest stall and began to crying quietly, wishing that he was back home and in his cozy, comforting bed. He then stayed in the stall until the first two periods of the day were over, meaning that it now was break. Mikaela slowly opened the stall, making sure that no one was in the bathroom, and proceeded to exit the school. He was planning to go outside where he saw a cherry blossom tree behind the school when he came earlier in the week to get his schedule, locker combination and map of the school.
Just as he saw the tree in the distance, he felt a rough push come as a surprise from his side as he crashed into the school building. He felt a jolt of pain go up his right arm, the one that hit the outside of school, and he really hoped that he didn't break or bruise anything. Him explaining to his parents why he had broken arm or a giant, nasty bruise was the last he needed to worry about. A punch across Mikaela's face was enough to get him out of his daze and snap back to reality.
Mikaela looked straight in front of him to see a group of guys, that he couldn't recognize, all crowd around him and begin closing in on him. Mikaela's eyes widen, he was gonna get beat up by these guys and he couldn't do anything about it. He was only a small height of 5'5 and the fact that he looked like a junior high student didn't help either, but he couldn't help it if he looked really adorable, helpless and slightly feminine.
One of them stepped forward, the biggest one, he squatted down to where Mikaela was pinned against the building, down on the floor with his back against the wall, arms stretched out right beside him and legs bent in front of him, putting space between himself and everyone else. "Guys look, it's the little crybaby that ran off crying during class." He then looked Mikaela straight in the eye, "You know, I hate the weak and if I hate the weak then my pals back there hate the weak. You see where this is going?"
Mikaela understood but decided to play the innocent card and softly shook his head no. But amidst moving his head side to side, his face was met with a fist that felt very dry and rough. The knuckles must've been bruised from previous fights.
Mikaela didn't say anything else and closed his eyes and raised his arms to cover and protect his face, bracing for another blow to his fragile body. Except this time it never came.
He heard a voice in distance, it seemed really pissed yet concerned? "Hey! What do you guys think you're doing?!"
He dared opened to open one of his eyes to see all the people who were ganging up on him staring at one particular direction, most likely where the owner of the voice was.
