28: Interview with Elle Magazine.

So this week , we got to sit and chat with Selena Gomez. She opened up about her music and everything going on in her life and also got to be the lead model in this month's issue.

So Selena , thank you for taking time and doing this interview. Our first question would be how does it feel like to be famous?

No problem. I would be up to do an interview at anytime. Um...being famous has it's pros and cons. The pros are definitely worth it but the cons suck. Trust me. You have the support of a million people plus your family and friends. But then you get the hate too which destroys you from the inside. Also then you get hope from the people that surround you. So it's like you get both the pros and cons but in the end everything works out okay.

How do you cope with the hate on social media?

Basically I really the good comments and ignore the bad ones. But once you get famous , you get used to the hate. I mean when I started dating Harry , the hate got too much. We actually sat down and talked about it. He told me that it was better if I let it go. I mean we both knew that it was not gonna stop and ignorance was the best way.

Speaking of Harry , what is your relationship with him now and are you two on good terms?

Me and Harry are not together right now but yes , we are on good terms right now. We are best friends than we could ever be and it feels great. He was the one who told me to tell everyone about my disease.

Now about your disease , when did this happen?

I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke. I locked myself until I was comfortable and confident again.

How did you keep it a secret and who was the first person you told?

I think it was just very complicated because I didn't understand and then that was something that I did want to keep private until my whole life suddenly wasn't private.
There was this kid that wouldn't look me in the eye at all. I wanted to get his attention, even though maybe it was too much. So I just said, 'Ask me anything you want.' And he was the first person that I told, besides my best friend and family, because he asked me, 'Have you ever dealt with anything like this?' And I said, 'I have lupus. I was in the ICU for two and a half weeks. I was in this exact same room.

What was your reaction when you learnt that you needed a kidney transplant?

After undergoing so many tests to monitor my kidneys my doctors told me I have lupus nephritis, one of those complications from lupus. They said I would be needing a kidney transplant ... Maybe I wasn't necessarily really good at knowing what that meant so it actually got to a point where it was life-or-death. Thankfully, one of my best friends gave me her kidney and it was the ultimate gift of life. And I am doing quite well now.
