The surah begins by praising and thanking god, Allah the almighty and 2 attributes of Allah. It is also a form of how God introduces himself and this is important for Muslims to understand when preaching or having daily conversations with people of different religious background as you are portraying and also introducing an image of Islam.

The way you speak, walk, eat, gaze, your gestures are being watched and judged by people and even Allah thus we need to be people of mercy with our actions  just like how our prophet Muhammad was sent down as a mercy to the world. The surah however ends with us seeking guidance and not to be amongst the people who Allah is displeased with and went astray.

Translation of surah Al-Fatihah:
(1)Praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the world.
(2)The most merciful and especially merciful.
(3)The owner/king on the day of judgement.
(4)You alone we worship and u alone we ask for help.
(5)Guide us on the straight path.
(6)The path of those you have blessed, not those who you are displeased with and astray.
