Now the sugar is sitting unstirred in the bottom of my cup,
And Honey, it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth…
I wonder if it would have changed anything
If someone had tried to stop me from leaving,
Or at least warned me to take an umbrella.
It seems they have all gone and forgotten me
And Love, it leaves a lonely feeling in my soul.
Sometimes when it rains, I walk around barefoot
Raising my hands to catch the drops and I pretend
That they’re washing my sins away.
But you know that I am not innocent,
And Baby, it leaves a dead feeling in my heart.
I’m just a nameless face waiting in the rain,
And nobody stops for strangers anymore…
So I slip into coffee shops to try to warm my soul,
Thinking sourly while I pour the cream,
If I am like the artificial sweetener in the bowl.
Now the sugar is sitting unstirred in the bottom of my cup,
And Honey, it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
