A/N: I'm not sure how I really feel about this. It's just a quick one shot that I've been writing on for the past day or so, so I'm terribly sorry if it sucks, but I still urge you to read it and tell me your thoughts.

His bones ached from exhaustion, his blue eyes were puffy and stung from the amount of tears he’d cried, and all he wanted was to curl up in bed and sleep, but Harry needed him. Louis needed to be strong and keep his eyes opened. So there he was, sitting in an ugly chair with his eyes staring at his best friend. Harry was unconscious in a hospital bed, his eyes closed shut and his body unresponsive.

The only thing that kept reminding Louis that Harry was still alive was the machine in the corner that continued to beep every few moments, monitoring his heartbeat, and the sight of his chest rising slowly and then falling from his lungs expanding with air.

Louis was confused, shocked, and he felt alone. He hadn’t expected this; no one had. And he was afraid that though the doctors had said Harry was going to be okay, that he was lucky to be alive and they’d gotten to him just in time, Louis still felt as if he’d still lost his best friend. Not through death, but through everything that had happened.

With a sigh, Louis reached up to wipe at his eyes. They were tearing up again as his thoughts went wild with the idea over ever losing Harry. He swallowed thickly and then drew in a deep breath.

Rising to his feet after a moment, he inched closer over to Harry. He looked so peaceful, unlike hours before when he was lying on the bathroom floor gasping for breath as blood seeped from the deep wounds across his wrists.

“Oh Harry,” Louis murmured, chocking back a sob, “Why would you do this to yourself? Why?” The older boy cried, gripping a hold of Harry’s hand.

No answer was received, not that Louis actually expected one. The nurse Louis had spoken to said Harry would probably sleep through the night, and he hoped he would. Louis knew how tired Harry had been recently before all this happened, and he knew Harry needed his rest.

“Louis! Louis what happened?” Anne’s hysterical voice filled Louis’ ears.

Spinning around, Louis found Harry’s mother standing in the doorway of the hospital room, Liam and Niall coming up from behind her. With a frown, he went over to her, pulling her into a hug as tears rolled down her cheeks. She was just as confused as they were.

“He’s gonna be okay. Liam and I got to him just in time,” Louis murmured.

“He tried to…kill himself?” Anne pulled back, locking eyes with Louis’.

Louis nodded sadly, “Yes,” He whispered. “We don’t know why, but he did.”

“Oh God,” She choked out, “My poor baby.”

Stepping aside, Louis watched as she made her way past him and over to Harry. He watched as Anne held onto Harry’s hand like Louis had just done, crying over him as she whispered sweet, gentle words to her son.

Moments later, Liam tapped him on the shoulder. Louis looked back at him and Liam gave him a certain pointed look. With a sigh, Louis followed him and Niall out to the waiting room to give Anne some time alone with Harry. Louis would see him later. He was sure of it.

“Zayn went back to the flat to get us some clothes,” Liam said quietly as the three of them heaved themselves into some chairs into the waiting room.

Louis glanced down at his clothes and nodded at the sight of all the blood smeared across his shirt and pants. Liam had blood on him as well, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as Louis. Liam had merely called nine-one-one trying to contain himself from flipping out, while Louis on the other hand had become hysterical in a matter of moments of finding Harry, and he’d pulled Harry into his arms, trying to stop the bleeding on the younger boys wrists, thus getting blood all over him. The sight of his clothes made him want to throw up, but he tried to look away and not think about it.
