" Auburn Camelia Rose."
It's finally over.
Wow..I'm finally out of this damn hellhole.
I stood up and walked towards the stage, stealing some glances from my friends. The principal, Mr Tayleh smiled and handed me the rolled piece of paper, something I've been working for my whole life.
"Congratulations Miss, I wish you the best of luck for the rest of your life."
I nodded and smiled back at Mr Tayleh and took the certificate before going back down. I sat back down on the slightly decorated chair and turned my head to Amber, a surely excited grin on my face.
Her strawberry blonde hair were glistening in the light of the hall, tied up in a ponytail with her signature bee hair clip on. Her chocolate eyes were fixed on me, a cheshire cat smile on her lips.
For many people in highschool, she was the perfect girl. Pretty, smart, athletic, sweet, everything you could think of. And then, we became friends. No one could believe that Amber Tangier, the perfect kid, was spending all of her free time hanging out with 'that art nerd' , as known as me.
Yup, the quiet and antisocial kid who spent freshman year drawing weird naked people.
Poses. Not naked people.
I wonder what would have happened if Marlin was still here..
"Tangier Amber."
The mention of her name snapped me out of my daydreams as I turned to face her already standing figure.
She flashed a smile at me and went to take her own certificate before coming back down, turning her head towards the crowd waving at her family. I stared at her radiant smile and chuckled.
"You're excited like a kid who just saw a candy mountain today, may I get the reason why?"
"We freaking graduated! Don't act like that doesn't matter." She frown and tugged a rebel strand of hair behind her ear before lightly pushing me away. "Stop acting like that time we both went to Emily's place."
I pushed her back and crossed my arms, annoyed." Well it was you who brought me to that party and disappeared the whole evening, leaving me doodle on a piece of tissue paper with grape juice."
Me and Mr grape were great friends.
Until my mom forced me to throw it away.
"You could've joined me. But Miss Auburn here just forcefully pulled me out of it."
I never told her that I saw some random guy trying to put some weird stuff in the punch. But I did and I won't let my bestie get drugged or something. And that glowy stuff was screaming drugs.
As much as everyone respect our old and sweet principal, his speech was getting kind of boring.
Poor old man.
I turned around and spotted my parents smiling at me, along with my step-dad and Ime, my brother.
Rectification: Half-brother.
The little monster was playing with his brand new console, something he never misses to brag about to his friends.
He's acting like a spoiled brat.
He is a spoiled brat..
Dad was taking a video of the whole thing and waved at me with a goofy smile on his face.
After the ceremony, I took off my hat thingy and stared at it for no particular reason.
The small pompom was of a beautiful marigold and the hat itself was colored of a rich indigo, almost blue.
"Sweetie! Get your butt out of dreamland and come here for a family photo."
My mom's voice echoed in the silent hall and the remaining people in the building couldn't help but to turn their head towards Mom as she walked towards me, grabbing my hand and forcefully bringing me outside.
Dad was fixing his camera when he looked up at my mom and I, sighing.
"Vanessa, can't you see you're embarrassing the poor girl?"
"Don't say such nonsense, George. I would never do that. Isn't that right, huniepop?"
I didn't need to look up at her to see her face. I could feel her innocent puppy eyes digging holes in my soul.
I sighed and looked up at her.
I knew it.
The puppy eyes are irresistible.
"Um..yeah, don't worry Dad. I wasn't embarrassed or anything."
Dad flashed a small smile at me and walked to me, trapping me in a tight hug only he can give.
"I'm proud of you, champ.."
Next thing I know is, well..
"MY BABY IS GROWING TOO FAST ! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITHOUT MY LITTLE GIRL?!"
Yeah.. should've guessed that would happen. My dad was still hugging me, crying.
I mean really crying.
The 'my favorite character just died and I knew how they felt before dying' kind of crying.
"Oh come on, it's not like she's dying or anything!" Ime's annoyed and annoying voice made his dad turned towards him, an angry frown on his face as they were both walking towards us.
"Ime! Don't say that kind of things about your sister!"
"It's fine Jared. The brat is just sad that I'm leaving." I smiled at the both of them and ruffled Ime's hair, making him freeze for a second.
The little brat looked up his console and glared at me before staring back at the small screen, grumbling under his breath.
Dad clapped his hands, grabbing our attention."Anyway..Family photo! Get ready."
The four of us were already posing as we waited for Dad to focus the camera. After some time of playing around with the very uncooperative gadget, he finally ran to us, taking his place by my side, his wide and goofy grin plastered on his face.
I heard the click and saw the flash of the camera and got caught it my dad's arm, again, after some seconds. He pecked my forehead and Mom didn't lose any time to join in the hug too, leaving a smiling Jared and an irritated Ime staring at us until the group hug ended.
It was my turn to smile like an idiot, embracing the happy moments with my family.
Then, in the corner of my eye, I saw a weird guy staring in our direction.
..Why does he look familiar?
