Prologue
It started off like any other normal summer. The buzz of excitement still lingered in the air as my classmates and I left the school, officially becoming seniors. We all attended the huge "End of Year" party that night at the richest kid in my year's mansion. It would be quite the understatement to say there was no alcohol, drugs, or sex. What can I say? Us California teens enjoy a good party!
When I arrived home the next day, a note was left on our kitchen counter. I looked at Ted, our chef, and he shrugged but nodded as an indication to read it. I grabbed the harmless piece of paper and started to read my mother's calligraphy.
Arden,
Your father and I are leaving this morning to go on a three month trip around Europe. We will be back a week before school starts. You have your credit card, so swipe it as much as you want. Your grandparents will be here this afternoon to pick you up. See you soon!
Love,
Mom
Wow, a whole three months! My parents, Jacob and Samantha, always go on exotic trips each summer while I spent the time at my grandparents in Chicago. I love them to death but three months will be hell. Yeah I have friends there and whatnot, but they aren't like my best friends.
Kaylee, Madeline, Blake, and Hannah are the most popular girls of Westmount High, and they just so happened to be my 4 best friends. Kaylee is the super sporty and super tan beach volleyball player. Madeline is the type of girl who is always nice and is every ones friend. Blake can be very blunt and sarcastic, but she is absolutely gorgeous and every guy wants her. Hannah is the typical head cheerleader, minus the bitchiness. Then me, I'm the quiet and reserved one of the group who keeps everything in check. I don't really mind being the "mom" of the clique.
Anyways, I figure Gram and Pap will have a plane ticket for me when they arrive, but for now, I need to extinguish this killer hangover. Yeah, I may be reserved but I love a good party.
After cleaning up, packing, and relaxing for a few hours, the doorbell rings and I greet my grandparents. We take my luggage to the car and head to the airport. Without a hitch we board the plane and I close my eyes until we land safely at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
My grandparents and I exited the first class cabin of our plane and walked towards the large baggage claim area. The thing about my grandparents is that they are über rich, but they spend money like they'll die overnight. They also have about 15 cars in their Chicago mansion, yet they prefer to take taxis. It doesn't make sense to me.
I grabbed my bags, and went to the curb outside the terminal.
"Honey how about you sit down for a while. Apparently all the cars are being used at the moment." My grandmother says as if she is blaming it on the guy at the taxi stand. So I sat down on the blue bench and pulled out my iPhone 4S. Nothing new on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Why are my friends do boring!
Suddenly, I felt the air move around me. I looked to my left to find an extremely hot guy with messy black hair that was sticking up in all directions. He had crystal blue eyes the same color as the deep blue of the ocean. Under his neon yellow wife beater, it was obvious that he was fairly ripped. The shirt also showed off his gorgeous tan. By just-
"Oh Austin! What are you doing here?" Pap exclaimed while looking at the gorgeous guy next to me.
The boy I presumed to be Austin looked up at my grandfather with a smile. "Well Mr. Thompson, I just flew in from a week long trip with my brothers in Cabo. Though I don't know where they went..."
"I love Cabo! It's amazing in winter!" Gram said excitedly. She then glanced at me and introduced me to Austin. "I almost forgot! Austin, this is my granddaughter Arden. Arden, this is our newish next door neighbor, Austin James."
"Hi it's nice to meet you" I greeted and stuck my hand out for him to shake it. Though he ended up doing nothing like what I expected.
A smirk appeared on his beautiful face and Austin snatched my hand to give it a gentle kiss. "Likewise my love." He said while looking straight into my grey eyes.
Naturally, I blushed, then glanced at my grandparents while they just smiled knowingly. Jerks.
A honk of a taxi's horn is what broke us apart and I grabbed my bags. I turned to give Austin a wave, but then my grandmother spoke up.
"This is nonsense Austin! Please come in our taxi, it would be a waste of gas and money for you not to! The fare is on me! Now everyone get in!" Pap was in the front while my oh-so-sneaky Gram took one of the window seats, forcing me to sit in between her and Austin.
This should be fun. Note the sarcasm.
