Chapter 5
Three days passed by as well as my parents funeral. It was small, close family and friends only. The morning I had found out, I seemed focused on the upcoming issue with Austin, but after he disappeared when I woke up, the tears refused to stop flowing. Why me? I'm just a teenager, with my only family living in Chicago. Though with school starting in only four days, I finally had an event to distract me.
Gram drove me to the Nordstrom about thirty minutes away in order to get "School Appropriate Clothing". Walking into the store, over in the shoes section, a familiar head of black hair. Crap.
"Oh, look Arden, there's your bed-buddy Austin!" Gram says rather loudly with a knowing smirk.
My jaw drops and I blush, "Gram! Don't say stuff like that!" Too late, Austin had looked over his shoulder to see both Gram and I staring at him. He gives me a small wink then returns to the Nike Air's he was looking at. "Okay, let's go upstairs."
I led Gram up the escalator, and proceed to pick out tons of "preppy" clothes. Blazers, stripes, and colored capris. After three or so hours, and hundreds of dollars later, I have a sufficient amount of clothes. We go back home, to meet Pap in the kitchen with Lizzy.
Pap gave us a warm smile, "I invited the James' over for dinner tonight, considering it's the last Thursday of summer!"
"Last Thursday of summer, then senior year!" I say happily, even though I know I have to start my school life over. No more four best friends, no crazy Californian parties, just stuck in Chicago.
