"Okay, Kyle," Grave muttered ominously, dialing a number on his cell phone and asked someone to report to him immediately. The door opened and a bodyguard appeared. He had a well-built body and his face was scarred.
Such a man wouldn't show us any pity, for sure, I thought.
He looked first at Grave, then at us and frowned. He probably already guessed what his boss was up to.
"Bring me that punishment tool we use on our enemies when they don't like to listen to us." Grave told him, but the bodyguard returned him a puzzled gaze. "Why are you just standing there and staring at me?" Grave yelled.
"Chief, are you sure? He is still your son." The bodyguard noticed, mentally sympathizing with Kyle.
"So what?!" Grave barked, voice filled with discontent. The bodyguard fell silent. "He doesn't get any privileges just because he is my son."
I was listening to Grave and a feeling of despair was upon me once again, increasing by every second. This man showed no mercy, even to his own child. He was a scumbag.
"I got you, chief. I will bring it now." The bodyguard said without sparing us a second glance and quickly closed the door shut. I felt a sudden jolt and the car lurched as he opened the trunk.
I was shaking all over. I didn't want Kyle to sacrifice himself for me again. Was this beastly father really going to punish him?!
"Get out!" Grave ordered in a sharp tone, pushing us closer to the door, where Kyle was sitting. It was difficult to move in this position, so the kingpin of the Grave gang pulled us out of the car. He undid the handcuffs and I instantly began to rub my wounded wrists.
My hands burn like I just touched a hot stove. Damn!
Escape was on my mind, but with the thugs who were working under Grave, I guessed it was useless. I also remembered the dagger which Toris had given me, but it definitely wouldn't help me in this situation. Who would fight against the whole mafia gang? It was a ridiculous idea.
But the events that followed swept like a whirlwind before my eyes, and it was an absolute surprise. Kyle attacked the bodyguard, who had released him from the handcuffs and hit him on the head with all his might. The bodyguard fell to the ground and Kyle quickly pulled the gun from his pocket. In a second, my hero pointed the weapon at Grave and he didn't have any qualms about what to do next.
He beckoned me, his dark blue eyes fixed on his father. Frankly, I wasn't ready for this turn of fate, but, of course, I was happy to know that we had a chance to run.
"Didn't you expect that I would fight?" Kyle asked Grave with a smirk. My hand connected with his and he hid me behind his body. I dug my nails into Kyle's skin when he whispered to me not to let my guard down and be his eyes at the back.
