Chapter Seven: The Start of the All Night Search

POV; Nick

I ran faster, and faster down the stairs, feeling the breeze ruffling my hair. Just wanting to get the hell away from Mark as far as possible, God knows what he’ll do to me after what I’ve done to him?! I laughed out loud at the thought, filling the silent staircase. As I got down to the lobby, I leaned back on the wall and tried to catch my breath, looked back and thanked God that Mark didn’t try to follow me.

As soon as I got out of the lobby, It was so foggy. So I just decided to ride a cab. I hailed a taxicab and hopped on.

“Where to sir?” The driver asked looking at me through the rear view mirror.

I hesitated for a moment to think of someplace to go “Uhmm…please drop me off the university down by seven blocks please.” I don’t know why I told him to drop me off that place, but I have a good feeling about this. The driver just nodded and started to drive.

I stared out of the window and realized it’s getting dark outside and it just started to rain. Upon hearing the tapping sounds of the raindrops on the car, the silence inside the taxicab soothes me. So I decided to rest my eyes a bit for a few minutes.

I suddenly felt someone shake me, I slowly opened my eyes and looked at that someone, it’s the taxi driver.

“Excuse me sir, I’m sorry for disturbing you but we’re already here.” He informed me.

“Oh, no need to apologize, and I’m so sorry if I fell asleep in your cab.” I said rubbing my eyes.

Looking out the window, I saw that the rain it was already is starting to get heavy. Oh no. I hurriedly paid the driver, told him to keep the change and got out of the cab.

As I got out, crap, it was so freakin’ cold! And I get to bring an umbrella and a coat with me this morning, and I didn’t know it was going to rain this hard today! I thought to myself, huffing out with annoyance.

What am I supposed to do now? I looked back and the cab is gone and paid the driver with the only money I got. What was I thinking?! I scolded myself.

As for the moment, I am getting all drenched under the pouring rain with my hair all messed up. Now I see are a bunch of students piling out of the university, glancing at my watch; almost evening, classes are already finished, I thought.

I kept staring at the school building before me for a couple of minutes then looked up, and thought that since I have no choice to go someplace else, I’ll just walk back home it’s just four blocks and I guess it’s nice to try something new like, walking back to my apartment all wet and bag all soggy.

Clenching my bag strap, I sighed and started to walk back to my place. With all of the people walking and rushing to get to their own houses I see, I realized that I was walking pretty slow. “Maybe it’s because of my soggy clothes that are weighing me down.” I muttered to myself, and I just kept walking.

While walking, I hear from a distant, someone yelling behind and some footsteps approaching.

“Hey! Stop! Please wait for a moment! I actually need to talk to you!” So I stopped on my tracks, looked back. I actually couldn’t see through the thick fog.

I tried squinting my eyes, when the mystery person got nearer, I realized that it’s the long haired girl named Krista from earlier, running after me with her black umbrella behind her while making her way through the crowd, I kept on hearing some curses and saw people glaring from behind her, but she doesn’t seem to hear or see them.
