BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BE-

Groaning to yourself you sat up and rubbed the sleep out of your eyes. You hardly had a week to get adjusted to the house, and now school was on your heels.

Nala had been very adamant about going, and bringing her along.

"Hurry up! This isn't just your first day it's mine aswell, I want to make a good impression!"

The kwami was currently fluffing her tail and ears, spinning and shining as she flew around your head.

"Nala, no one can see you, you have to stay a secret!"

A tiny gasp came from her as she slowly sank down to the bed, her arms covering her mouth.

"But how will they see how fabulous I am?"

You scoffed and rolled your eyes before sliding a shirt over your head. Nala quickly composed herself and hovered just in front of your eyes.

"Oh well, I guess I will just be an inspiration for you! With me as your personal 'angel on your shoulder' everyone will grow you love or fear you!" Inspecting her imaginary nails she added after a moment, "Respectively."

Quirking up and eye brow you replied.

"Angel? You're more like the devil on my shoulder."

A mock gasp escaped her lips as she feigned hurt.

"Me? Devil? Never!"

"Yeah sure, whatever you say."

-time skip-

The big double doors loomed over you as you rethought you entire life for the fifth time.

"What if I just call in sick?"

"No"

"What if I jump in front of a car?"

"No"

"What if I walk in and everyone just starts laughing at me?"

"That won't happen"

"What if I-"

"Enough of this already! You are (y/n). You are Karma! For gods sake you fight crime for a living!"

"Criminals don't judge me, and even if I do I don't care about them. This could be my entire future!"

With an annoyed huff Nala flew out from where she was nestled in your bag, folding her arms in front of her.

"Just go and show them who's boss!"

"Who is the boss?"

"You!"

"I don't want to be the boss!"

She groaned before flying down to the pendant hanging around your neck.

"Fine. Might as well take this back. I don't think karma should be some scared little girl who can't even walk into school without freaking out."

You slowly breathed out, closing your eyes before replying.

"Alright, fine. I'll just do it."

Seemingly satisfied Nala returned to your bag. After checking to see that she's out of sight, you calmed your nerves and opened the doors.

A rush of senses greeted you. You almost backed out right then and there. Students walked past occupied with either their work or friends, chatting happily. The low rumble of continued conversation mixed with the clicks of shoes on tiles filled our ears as you moved forward. The slow flow of people sucked you in and gently pushed you towards the stairs, where you ascended with others. You might as well been invisible!

"Hey, are you new?"

Well, maybe not.

You turned towards the voice to see a dark skinned girl with insanely frizzy hair. She held herself with respect, but not so that she was up herself.

"Uh- yeah?"

She chuckled quietly before holding out her hand to shake.

"I'm Alya! Sorry, you just seemed really lost and I haven't noticed you before."

You extended your own hand as you gave her your name. She smiled and turned a little before walking off, calling out behind her to you.

"Follow me. Class is this way."

Grateful for an anchor in the sea of madness, you followed without thought or question.
