"Hello?"

"Hi Ryan, this is Ellen, your fathers housekeeper," an elderly women said down the phone.

"My father?" I replied slowly.

"Yes, Edward Chambers," she answered uncertainly.

"Right yes, sorry, you were saying," I replied.

"It brings me great difficultly to tell you that he died on Thursday evening," she said softly.

My heart sank. Dead? My father dead?

"Ryan? Are you there?" she spoke.

"Yeah, Ermmmm, how?" I said taking deep breaths.

"Heart attack," she replied.

"Oh gosh, will there be a funeral?" I asked.

"Yes there will. You need to come down as soon as you can to sort his home out," she replied.

Back to Ellesville?

I couldn't, not after what happened.

I said goodbye and hung up.

My head wouldn't take this new information in. My father was dead, and I needed to return to Ellesville to sort things out.

The memories poured back into my mind.

Things I had tried to forget, that I had pushed away in hope I'd never have to face them again.

Once again, my life was changing. And I didn't like it.

The following day I gathered my things and packed them away into my car.

I was only planning on staying a week or two, to me that was plenty of time.  I drove down the fimilar roads that I had not been down since I was 16. I had never dreamt that I would have to face coming back here again.

I hadn't seen my father in 10 years, and I knew that we were not on speaking terms. My mother had run off with some Australian when I was 6, and I hadn't heard from her since. I had three siblings, but like my father, I was not talking to any of them.

I didn't think I had a troubled past, but the more I remembered my childhood, I realised that I did.

Being raised with three children that were so close was hard. I always felt left out. I returned from reality, and turned into the drive way that I only knew to well. I found the spare key under the door mat, and let myself in.

I held my breath, and walked through the door.
