"Wake up Jacob." said a familiar voice. As I opened my eyes I saw my mother smiling at me. "Good morning Jacob!" she said. "Good morning mom." I said yawning. "You know what today is?" She then stood up and opened one of my cabinets. "I don't think it's anything important?" I said sitting on my bed. She closed the cabinet and frowned. I don't know why she frowned but I think I forgot something important. Oh no! Did I forget that it was her birthday today? Oh well, better late than never. "Mom ha..." just as I was about to say happy birthday she came closer to me and gave me a new pair of clothing. "You're getting discharged today Jacob." she said. My eyes widened. I looked at my surroundings and realized I was in a hospital room. "Why am I in the hospital?" I asked a little confused. I couldn't remember anything happening that could have led to me being here. "You seriously don't remember?" my mom looked at me a little depressed. I shook my head and said "No, I really don't know what's going on here." As I stood up, I saw this crumpled newspaper on the ground. I picked it up and saw the headline. EAGLE THEATRE FIRE KILLS 87 PEOPLE. "The eagle theatre? Mom wasn't I supposed to perform there?" She didn't reply. As I looked around I realized, she wasn't in the room. "Mom?" Where could she be?
Probably just went out to get some air. I sat down and continued reading the newspaper article.
Sunday June 16, the Eagle Theatre in Carmine Valley caught on fire by what people believed was a freak accident killing 87 people including 10 of the men and women performing that night.
That's the day I was supposed to perform in the theatre. It explains why I'm in the hospital but, why can't I recall anything of the incident? As I droped the newspaper on my bed I heard a rustling sound coming from bellow my bed. I bent down and saw a bunch of crumpled newpapers. Eight newspapers? Was mom reading all of these? I looked at the headlines of some newspapers and they were all about the Eagle Theatre fire. Then I came accross this article about a survivor. My eyes widened as I read who it was.
Sunday June 30, A survivor was found by the name of Jacob Lyh Scott inside the Eagle Theatre two weeks after the fire incident. The boy was immediately sent to the hospital along with a woman who was found right next to him. The woman died before reaching the hospital. Mr. Scott is in critical condition and is in dire need of medical attention.
I was a survivor? This is very confusing right now. And who is this woman I was with? A strong gust of wind came inside my room and the newspapers scattered everywhere. As I was picking up the newspaper I saw a picture of a woman, my mom, in one of the newspaper articles with the title, MOTHER SAVES BOYS LIFE. I took it as soon as I saw it. My hands started shaking. The article read:
Wednesday July 3, Anne Scott, the mother of the lone survivor in the Eagle Theatre fire donated her heart to his son who needed a heart transplant as told by the doctors. They were a perfect match and the mother was more than happy to have given her heart to her son. She said in an interview, "He's a very talented boy with a great life ahead of him. I've allready got my last wish and I'm ready to go." The transplant was done yesterday afternoon.
I threw the newspaper down. Looking at my surroundings I wondered, if my mom died then... who was I talking to?
