I was speaking to my mother in law about this recently. I didn't realise it until earlier this year, id seen posts and pictures like the ones i post on her about is but i didn't realise it was true to be honest. When they say things like "first you must defeat the enemy inside your mask", about fencing being an entirely mental game, like chess, it is actually true. Yes skill is obviously important, but if you are not in the right mindset, if you don't have a positive head on you are not going to succeed. 🤺⚔️
