Chapter1: Introducing: The Augma

The Augma, a newly released device, swiftly gained widespread popularity with many people rushing to purchase it. This device is a white-framed headset worn around one of the user's ears.

Unlike its predecessor, the AmuSphere, the Augma does not support FullDive functionality. However, it offers unique advantages, such as the ability to play Augmented Reality (AR) games. In Japan, most users employ the Augma to play a game called Ordinal Scale.

Ordinal Scale is an Augmented Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (ARMMORPG) designed for Augma users. Its standout feature is a ranking system where players earn points by collecting materials in the real world or defeating monsters and other players.

Players are assigned a Ranking Number based on their points. Higher rankings enhance the strength of their D-weapon and armor, and players also receive real-world benefits from various companies.

Contributing to the game's rising popularity is its mascot, YUNA. Debuting as the world's first AR idol, YUNA is controlled by a program but exhibits such natural speech and expressions that rumors suggest a real human might be behind her.

YUNA's popularity is evident in her ability to instantly sell out 30,000 tickets for her first live concert, scheduled for the end of April.

Currently, Y/N, a Jamaican-British male, is at a family restaurant with his girlfriend Asuna, along with his friends Kazuto, Sachi, Rika, and Keiko. The group arrived at the restaurant half an hour ago after finishing their school day.

Y/N's other friends, Suguha, Shino, Aiz, and Yuuki, are absent. Suguha, Aiz, and Shino attend a different school and couldn't join, while Yuuki is still in the hospital undergoing rehabilitation after her miraculous survival.

At the restaurant, Y/N and Kazuto watch their friends play Pac Man 2026 on the Augma. Y/N sits between Asuna and Rika, while Kazuto sits between Sachi and Keiko. The game supports up to four players, so Asuna, Sachi, Rika, and Keiko are playing while the boys watch, slightly bored.

After a few minutes, the girls finish the game, earning 100 points and increasing their ranking.

Rika: Well, you can get points for all kinds of shops. So we might as well play, right?

Sachi: Can't you just admit that you wanted to play with us?

Kazuto: Mm...

Kazuto looks away, making everyone chuckle. As the others continue teasing Kazuto, Asuna notices Y/N's eyelids growing heavy. Before he can fall asleep, Asuna gently places his head on her shoulder.
