Claire's POV

"Everything's all packed up, Charles?" mama asked.

I sat on the porch hugging my friend, Elizabeth, before standing up.

She wiped a tear from her eye and stood up along with me.

"I'll miss you, Claire, we've sure shared some great memories," she sighed out before giving me one last powerful hug.

"I'll miss you too, Lizzy," I replied exchanging a small smile.

"C'mon Clairie," papa said ushering me to the car.

I watched Lizzy walk back into the house slowly as we departed from our neighborhood.

I sighed and laid my head against the window.

"So, Clairie, are you excited for our new start?" Papa asked happily from the drivers seat.

"Of course, papa, it will be fun," I replied with a fake smile.

I would never disrespect my parents.

If it's something that's great for them and won't potentially hurt me, then I'm fine. As long as they're happy, I'm happy.

Mama started humming old songs with her eyes closed as I drifted into a peaceful slumber.

Elizabeth's POV

I walked into the house slowly while sobbing.

"Mother, she's leaving now," I said wiping tears off of my face.

"Darling, I know it's hard, but people come and go," she said soothingly while patting my back.

I give a small smile before hesding to my room.

I sigh and lie on my back.

I wonder what she's doing right now.

Sleeping, eating, singing...

I smile at the thought of her having fun. She's s very insecure girl, but I love being around her.

I started humming Mama T's favorite song.

Claire's POV

I wake up to my dad shaking my shoulder and calling my name.

"Claire, wake up, we won't be able to make it in one trip so I decided to stop halfway," he said as I said up.

"Yes sir," I replied and followed him out of the car.

We walked up to a motel, fairly nice if you ask me.

I look around me and take in my surroundings. C'mon Clairie," my dad said pulling me to the front desk.

The man at the front desk looked at my mom and I in disgust. I don't know why, but I shrugged it off.

"Hi, sir, we were looking for a room to stay for the night," my dad informed with a smile.

"They can't stay here," he said putting a toothpick in his mouth and leaning back.

"Pardon me?" my dad asked confusedly.

"See that sign right there?" he asked. We turned around and came face to a sign that read "whites only" in quite a nice font.

I smiled at the beauty and turned back around to the man.

"We have no problem with you sir, just them," he said.

I frown slightly at this, but keep my cool.

I grab my mom's hand and dragged her to the car.

I sat down in the back seat and grabbed two covers to spread over the two of us.

We laid down and she fell asleep as I cried myself to sleep. I wish life was easier...
