2. Meet the Bergenias...and the Gustins
"I suppose you want to go to the semiformal?" Eleanor asked, her arms folded over her chest, a look of disgust on her face.
"Yes." I mumbled cautiously. Although, I knew her nor Theodore would allow me to go. "What do you think about that, Theodore?" She asked, looking over at her husband, who had been working on paperwork at his desk in the large living room.
He looked up. "I suppose she'll have to go. It would look quite suspicious if she's not there, especially since it's in honor of Jason Blossom. Penelope and Clifford are friends of ours, so they would notice her absence."
Eleanor sighed. "Go get stuff for the semiformal on your own. And don't embarrass us."
I got up to walk out of the room, before Eleanor suddenly leapt up, standing no more than a few inches away. Her red nails dig into my arm hard, probably breaking the skin, but I didn't look. "What was that?" She hissed. I frowned. "I didn't say anythi-" "Get out of my sight. You're lucky we're even letting you attend this event."
I broke away and rushed to the door, grabbing my jacket and boots and heading down the white steps.
I hated this mansion. I hated Eleanor and Theodore. I pulled out my phone, texting my mom. My real mom, Elle Gustin.

Will you meet me at Lintwood St? I need to go shopping for the semiformal.
Read 4:10 pmOf course. I'll be there in 5.
Okay, love you.
Delivered 4:15 pmI looked around, making sure Eleanor and Theodore weren't watching before crossing the bumpy path and running down the street.

"This is cute, don't you think?" My mom said, holding up a little black dress that had a slit in the side so my legs would be exposed, but not much. I nodded. "Yeah, it is." "Try it on!" She squealed, practically shoving me into the dressing rooms.
You see, my mom and I had the same fashion sense. She had me when she was 14, which made her 30 now. 3 years ago, the court decided that my mom was no longer a fit parent. She was 27, made very little money, and was a single parent. I loved it living there with her, even if it wasn't always easy. She took care of me. But, the court made the decision to put me in a group home. I stayed there for a few weeks, until some couple who couldn't have a baby came and thought it would be fun to experience having a kid. Once the guy finally knocked her up, they left me.
Then came some sorority house. Then the two guys. And then, worst of all, the Bergenias.
Eleanor and Theodore had just had a child die from cancer a couple of years ago. They expected me to be like her. When I was 14, the summer before freshman year, they took me from my home in New Orleans, Louisiana and brought me to Riverdale. They had moved from Columbus, Ohio. Once my mom got enough money, she packed her bags and moved to Riverdale as well to be closer to me.
At first, the Bergenias were nice. They gave me a lot, I had a two huge rooms all to myself, and they let me do pretty much whatever I wanted. After a while, they showed their true colors. They started being more harsh and cruel, as well as putting their hands on me multiple times a day. They were friends with the Blossoms, the other rich family in Riverdale. Penelope, Clifford, Theodore, and Eleanor very rude human beings. I did like the Blossom kids, though. Jason and Cheryl. Jason was the cliché popular football player of Riverdale High, but he seemed really nice. He dated Betty's older sister, Polly. Cheryl , Jason's twin sister, could be nice. Everyone saw her as a mean she-devil, but she was really just sassy. Since Eleanor and Theodore were friends with Penelope and Clifford, we would go out to fancy restaurants outside of Riverdale for dinner together, or one family would invite the other over. I got to know Jason, but not really Cheryl, since she mostly just hid out in her room when we were there. I thought she hated me. In the time I got to know the Blossom twin, he was the best friend I'd ever had. He was funny, kind, and talked to me about most things he couldn't tell his parents. He accepted me for who I was, and we could trust each other.
I heard a knock on the door. "How does it look?" My mom called. "Come out so I can see!" I sighed, rubbing the fabric of the dress in between my fingers and looking up at the girl in the mirror.
It wasn't until then that I actually realized,
That I missed Jason Blossom.
