I woke up to a familiar morning routine. The hand stuck in the bars between the bed to the fighting downstairs, and I finally realized something after all my years of life; everything was repeating itself. Not like exactly but so similar you eventually notice. I started seeing these patterns everywhere, from the books that fell off the shelves to the rain that came every Saturday morning. I was the only one who apparently noticed too; it seemed as if everyone went upon the same daily routine almost like a robot. I asked everyone and they said they didn't notice, so I eventually took matters into my own hands... i was going to shut off my game.
I should probably tell the story of how I would wake up. Remember the story of how the kids that killed themselves weren't remembered. Well it's because they took themselves out of the game- permanently. I wanted to know what happened to them so I went to the library; I know right the library the ultimate source of 'you don't know what your gonna find but hopefully it will help you' kinda place. But anyway I sucked in a breath opened the heavy wood door; and breathed in the scent of 100% bullcrap as I noticed every single kid from school happened to be sat by the computers finishing the final we had that was due tomorrow. I groaned as I realized all the work I had to do was now gonna actually be from books. The librarian who happened to be my moms friend walked over at the sound of my discomfort and said,
" here darling come back to my office and talk to me about what you need and I'll see what I can do!"
My response was somewhere between, "thank The Lord!" And "yeaaaaa bout that..."
She obviously didn't know what I was there for but nonetheless I told her the whole story. She looked at me like I was crazy at first- as was expected- but then she let out a sigh like she was relieved.
"Honey you know how long I've been wanting to hear that from you?"
I asked what she meant.
"Darling if you think you're the only one who noticed that you're wrong but that does mean you need to see this." She pointed to a computer where what looked like a tape was set up.
" this is the recording from a kid who taped a camera to his head and committed suicide; I know that sounds bad but he wanted to know what happens when you did it.
She turned and played the video, at first it was just the kid looking over the pier but then he got up on a rail and jumped. When he hit the water it looked like he was sucked into a whirlpool and then it was kinda like an episode of doctor who with the time vortex. All of a sudden it was nothing and then he was in a white room and three people in cloaks appeared. They asked Him why he jumped and he replied with a simple,
" I'm tired of life in that stupid game."
The cloaked people got angry then yelling profanities in every language and some I haven't even heard of. They told him he was stupid and that life outside of the walls was even worse but the kid didn't say anything else. They told him he'd have to become one of the council members and work in the building for the rest of his life or go back into the game. He just got out of the chair put on one of the cloaks the men had and walked out the door. That was the end of the video.
I knew what I had to do then. I also knew I was gonna have to act a bit weird for awhile so the game makers would immeasurably send me back into the game for spying on government agencies. I would have to act depressed so the council would have a legit reason to pull me from the game.
I would have to jump off the pier.
