Eyes flutter open to the warm, summer sun shining through the window. I take in a deep breath, and the smell of coffee overwhelms my senses. I look toward the other bed and there Matt, Mike and Ian are… sitting on it with McKenzie. They are quietly watching a TV show.
I stir and sit up, “What are you three doing in here?” I say, sounding tired, “And with coffee… you’re idea, Mike?”
He nods, taking a sip from his cup and putting it on the bedside table. I glance at Josh and back to the guys, “Josh was really dizzy last night… and got sick.”
“I hope it’s not what it sounds like,” Matt says, looking at Josh, “praying it’s not vertigo. But hell, what’s a little Vertigo?” He chuckles at the reference from Fix Me.
I feel Josh’s arm tighten on waist and his eyes flutter open. He pulls me so our faces are inches from each other, “Sleep didn’t help,” he whispers and his eyes close, “I’m still dizzy.”
“Is it what Matt said it could be? Vertigo?” I kiss his cheek and look at him; he’s in pain also on the edge of puking again. He nods. “Want to go to the hospital?”
“I need one of the guys to support me; I can hardly walk when I’m like this. And I saw how much you were off balance last night from me leaning against you.” he says, sitting up and looking at the guys. “Uh, Matt…”
He moves his eyes from the TV to Josh. “Yeah man?”
“Can you help me to the car? I think I should go to the hospital…”
“Sure thing, Josh,” Matt says, standing up and walks over to Josh, putting his arm around Josh’s body. I stop him. “What?”
“Let’s get his shoes on before he’s standing… it’d probably be way easier.” Mike walks over and hands me, Josh’s shoes. I quickly dress him. I slip his shoes on his feet and tie them up. I kiss Josh’s lips lightly and he smiles when I look in his eyes, “Ready?”
He nods. Matt and Mike help him to his feet, he tries to walk on his own but his legs give out. The guys catch him before he hits the floor. “Let me walk...” he mumbles and I take his face in-between my hands. “What are you doing?”
“Let the guys help you, Mister!” I stare in his eyes and he nods. “Let’s go. Ian? Would you mind driving McKenzie home for me please?”
“Sure can,” Ian smiles. “I’ll need to be given directions though.”
“I don’t want to go home yet though!” she crosses her arms and looks at me. “Let me hang out for a while longer please!”
“Talk with Ian, if you decide to stay, call the house…” I say, pulling on my converse. “I’m sure Ian will want to come to the hospital sometime too.” I slip out of the hotel room and follow the guys down the hallway to the elevator.
We walk through the lobby and out the doors, to my awaiting piece-of-shit car. They buckle Josh into the back seat as I start the car, waiting for Matt and Mike to get in. I see Josh’s eyes close and I pull out of the parking lot, Mike tries to turn the radio station but ends up starting my CD playing. The voice of the men in my car, fill the car, I smile making our way to the hospital.
