The bell rings five minutes after I sit down in my new homeroom. It is just after the middle of the school year, so everybody already knows each other, while I am the "new kid." From experience with being a new student, I know that it pays to arrive early. As the rest of the students pour into the room I check my watch, waiting for the teacher to humiliate me. At almost every new school I have attended, the teacher has forced me to introduce myself. Fortunately, after so much experience, I have perfected this introduction, but I was surprised that the teacher just wrote her name on the board and started calling out the names from the register, In red whiteboard marker read the name 'Mrs Griffin.' My name is called from the register so I respond with a simple "Present" and Mrs Griffin looks up and smiles "Welcome to Kingsland high school William."

Suddenly the door opens and a girl barges through. She rushes to an empty desk and I notice a piece of paper that falls out of her pocket. "Good evening, Miss Everleigh," Mrs Griffin says while writing some notes on a sheet of paper. A few people in the class snicker while the girl drops her bag on the ground. She is dressed in a pale blue, knee length dress and a long white coat which she drapes over her chair, with a black headband placed over her hair, holding back her chocolate brown mane. She pulls her book out of her bag and her long lashes flutter as she glances up. The first thing I notice are her blue, large eyes. She starts to blush as she notices people staring. I turn my eyes away quickly and suddenly realise I've seen her somewhere before.

I take a quick peek over my shoulder in an attempt to figure out where I know her from but my mind stays blank. The second bell rings, signalling that it's time for the next class. I stay at my desk pretending to take something out of my bag until I see the girl has left. I walk over to where she was sitting and pick up the piece of paper she dropped earlier on. On it is a quote from Pride and Prejudice. "I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library." This amuses me as it is my sister's favourite quote from the book. Well, it was. I feel a pain in my chest and quickly distract myself by folding the paper and putting it into the pocket of my coat.
