Green.
Green eyes stare back at me through the reflection in the mirror.
If you look close enough you can just see the splatter of blue on the bottom part of my iris, and if you look even closer you can see the line of gold circling my pupil.
But if you look even closer than that you can see a tiny part of the soul that's behind those eyes, constantly criticizing every move I make. Every step and every decision. Making sure that it's just the right one so that way I don't pay for it later on.
   Black.
Black hair surrounds my face and shoulders, climbing all the way down my back and stopping at my waist. The unruly curls mock me as I try to tame them with a brush.
More black.
The crown on the inside of my wrist mocks me even more than my hair. Marking me as unacceptable to the people who matter the most to me.
And lastly, to put the cherry on top of the cake. Gold.
The rose lying on my vanity mocks me the most. More intoxicating than a natural one, my fingers run through the golden petals and the scent rises up.
I wrap my hand around the delicate flower and crush it. The gold liquid that drains through my fingers calms my nerves, as it always does and I exhale the breath I didn't realize I was holding.
I look back at my reflection and straighten my shoulders. Those green eyes give less of a glimpse to the soul that's inside.
I can do this.
