"Oh please, who do you think you are, James Bond?" I droned.
The tinny sound of Cora's voice leaked out from the speaker of my phone, and I hastily swiped the screen to end the call. I would have to explain this to her later. Dimitri stood above me, his eyes dancing with unknown intent like a black cat stalking in the night. He was quiet—a self-assurance around him that created a sense of ease in the air that I could not understand, yet it made my thighs twitch and clench together. He was like a magnet and I was a tiny scrap of metal being pulled in by him. A helpless moth to a glorious flame.
"Everyone is looking for you," he said, his cool gaze lowering to my lips. I stared into the dark eyes that were inspecting me meticulously, my chest rising up and down slowly as I consciously tried to steady my breathing. It was not working as well as I had hoped.
He was wearing a tuxedo and a black mask—surprise, surprise— but unlike its other counterparts in the room it had gold swirls sweeping across the edges. It rested over his sculptured nose and cheekbones like a second skin, enhancing his tan complexion gorgeously. I distanced myself from him, edging across the brick wall. I could feel my heart beating powerfully in my ribcage but I continued to stare at him with a guarded and aloof expression.
"Don't you think that mask of yours is rather feminine?" I scoffed, a poor attempt to divert the conversation. His lips stretched into a knowing smile—he could tell my comment was void of meaning and I hated how he had cut right through my defense.
"It's Venetian." He played along with me nonetheless.
"Expensive?"
"Very."
"Why bother? It's only an office party."
"I suppose that is true," he said as he rocked on his heels.
"Why are you even here?" I eased the words out, trying to hide the agitation in my voice.
"I was invited, moró," he said as he took a leisurely step towards me. My mind seemed to pick up on the word he spoke in his native tongue and I remembered the note he had left for me at work with the strange locked box.
"Why did you give me that old box?" I asked, "It doesn't even have a key!"
"It was a gift, Frances." He took another step forward—we were almost chest to chest and it was beginning to hurt my neck to look up at someone so tall.
"A gift you can't open isn't a gift."
"Perhaps not," he said, taking one last step.
Chest to chest, I could feel my chest brushing against his hard torso and hot shivers trickled down my spine. I bit into my cheek to keep my composure. His hands were at my waist and he dug his nails into the fabric of my dress. My breaths were beginning to shake as he bent down to whisper into the shell of my ear.
"Your breasts look gorgeous in this dress."
His comment knocked me sideways with shock and I was about to push him away from me when John suddenly became visible a few metres away.
"Who even says that? John is here, get off me," I snapped at him as I panicked but Dimitri only drew me closer and in a blink, we had moved backwards into an empty office that I had not even noticed. He closed the door and clicked the lock shut.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" I hissed but I could feel my blood rushing through my veins with excitement.
"This," he murmured huskily as he lifted my chin and kissed me full on the mouth.
His lips were hot, bittersweet and just... alive— I had been flying with autopilot for so long I forgot how it was to feel wild and uncontrolled. In fact, I had never been wild in my entire life. His thick black hair was like silk between my fingers as his tongue thrust into my mouth and I could feel my skin scorching as he smoothed his hands down my arms.
"I don't even know you," I breathed as he pressed his lips to the tender slope between my neck and my shoulder.
"Then we'll have to get to know each other, won't we?" he murmured against my skin before pulling away and he began to pull off his mask.
"Leave it on, I like it."
"I thought it was feminine?" He smirked.
Frantic fingers dragged up the hem of my dress and his hands pinched the soft globes of my backside as he kissed me greedily. He traced the edge of my lace underwear and I shivered as he knelt down in front of me, peeling them down my legs slowly until they reached my heels.
His warm breath blew against my navel before he made his way between my thighs. I closed my eyes and my head fell back as he began to kiss and lick me. I found myself being lead backwards until my bare bottom hit the wood of the desk behind me and Dimitri made me sit on it. His eyes twinkled as he stared up at me.
I wanted him and I knew there was no way of getting out of it now. I was in too deep.
I could feel myself brimming on the edge but he suddenly stopped. He had a devilish grin on his face when I sat up and grabbed his hair, pushing him back down. He laughed deeply and the vibrations hummed deliciously against my skin. I could feel tiny shudders beginning to roll through me as I shattered into an orgasm for the first time in all of my twenty four years of being on this Earth.
The room seemed to shake—no, it was shaking and the dim ceiling light had begun to flicker— my fingertips, still buried in his thick curly hair, had begun to glow against the dark strands. What the fuck is happening to me? I drove my foot in to his chest, and he stumbled back with a groan. I could feel my hands shaking.
"Well, that is no way to thank the man who just made you come." Dimitri he rose to his feet majestically like a King. He was grinning at me... until he noticed my fingertips, which were still glowing with a dim white light in the low lit room. His eyes widened and he took my face in his hands.
"Frances, look at me," he demanded as he stared right into my eyes as if he was searching for something. "Your eyes, your beautiful eyes."
"What about them? Tell me what's going on!" I was beginning to full blown panic now. What was wrong with my eyes? I could feel my body beginning to rise in temperature and I knew there would be consequences if I got too out of control but I could not calm myself down. Something was heaving the emotion out of me. I lifted my hands level with my eyes but my fingertips were no longer glowing and had returned to their ordinary state.
Dimitri was still holding my face and a soft coolness seeped into my skin through his hands. It was a familiar feeling—the same thing I had felt at the restaurant. He was doing something to me again. I tried to pull away but he would not let me go. I could hear him mumbling words in Greek and I was trying to struggle but I could not feel any of my limbs. It was if I was frozen. Not this again. Had he pressed a pressure point?
"It's time to sleep," he soothed, pressing a kiss to my lips, but I could feel nothing.
I found myself looking right through him as I felt a blackness sweeping over me. Oh God, what have I done?
