"Hi," I said, "I'm Daniel."
"Hi," she replied, "I'm June."
I study her face. June's face. She has deep brown eyes. From a distance, they look black and far from elaborate, but when you really look at them, they are lighter brown speckled all over with black and green dots. Truly beautiful.
"So," I hesitate, trying to figure out what to say, "Err, you know Tess?" I throw her a small smile.
"Yes," She replies quickly and quaintly. "She's a very good friend of mine, and obviously, of yours, too." She tosses back my smile, only hers is much, much prettier. I laugh lightly and study her face once more. This time my eyes catch on her lips. Such a soft, pink, full feature. I can feel a blush rising to my cheeks, but I'm not entirely sure why.
They're just lips, yeah?
"You may have to remind me this too, June, but what is your full name?" I focus on stepping the same as her. Her grace is not a simple thing to mimic.
"June Iparis," She doesn't miss a beat.
"How did we meet, Miss Iparis? Assuming you aren't married, of course." I grin at her barely pink cheeks.
"Um, I think we should wait until later to talk about that one," She purses her lips before continuing, "And no, Day, I am not married."
She called me Day.
"I just told you my name was Daniel," I smirk.
"Do you prefer me to call you Daniel, Day?" She grins.
"The question is what you prefer, my darling," I nearly take her hand.
What's wrong with me around this girl?
"I prefer Day, personally." She speaks quietly now. Apparently there is some sort of meaning behind her preference.
Do you realize how annoying it is to know you are forgetting something but are incapable of remembering it because you don't even know what it is? It's pretty bad.
"Good," I smirk, "Day sounds better coming off your pretty lips then Daniel does anyway," I try to flirt. June simply rolls her eyes and laughs lightly.
"At least you didn't forget your personality," She mumbles between a smile.
I roll my eyes and shrug it off.
"How could I remember it and not remember you?" I ask.
"Ask your genius brain doctors," she suggests with a grin.
We finally return to where Eden was left standing, and he and June embrace each other into a friendly hug.
"You've grown so much!" June smiles at my little brother. He halfheartedly smiles back and then proceeds to rearranging gears in a mechanical toy.
"Feeling the love," She mumbles and laughs to herself.
The three of us turn to the direction of Tess's apartment, East, and we start at a slow walk, the speed June started with.
"Are you walking slow because you think I can't keep up with you? Or is it because you want to spend more time with me?" I smirk at her.
She blushes but doesn't reply, so I'm guessing it's the second option.
I walk in between Eden and June, and even though I am talking to Eden about his behavior at Tess's house, I know June is looking at me. She's analyzing me. I can feel her eyes slowly scraping across my back, my legs, my head, my shoulders, and my feet.
"You cut your hair," She says quietly.
"Yeah," I shrug. It was getting too hard to manage, so I had someone cut it to a near-normal length.
