'I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?'

Elena had never thought she would peacefully sit with all the originals in one room, but because of Hermione she was. Not only her, everyone. Including Damon, even though Elena was sure Damon wouldn't trust them any time soon. But neither would she nor Stefan.

'So...' Tears evident in Hermione's eyes and Niklaus pulled her a little bit closer on the couch.

She took a deep breath and continued, 'When I was eleven when I got a letter, for Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizzardry. I befriended Harry and Ron, Harry is famous in our world. As he was the first and only one to survive a death curse... The man who tried to kill him, killed his parents. His name was... his name was Voldemort.'

Kol sat straight, 'Wait... I've heard of that guy... Some witch mentioned his name...'

Hermione nodded, 'You could say he was famous... he was terrible. He... believed that those who weren't born with magical parents were less worthy. He called them mudbloods, dirty blood.'

Damon frowned, 'Isn't that kind of logical, that magic is passed down by genetics.'

Hermione rolled up her sleeve, showing the scar on her arm. Everyone gasped. 'You could say so and most of the time that's true. But I'm one of these witches and I'm just as capable of doing magic as others. Anyway, he fought his way to the top. He hunted muggleborns, mudbloods down. Until? The day he tried to kill Harry Potter, who was just a baby at the time. And his spell backfired.'

'So he died?' Elijah asked.

Hermione shook her head, 'No... He was obsessed with becoming immortal, he tore his soul in seven pieces. When his spell backfired only one of these pieces died, the others remained.'

Caroline shivered, how could someone do that to themselves?

'In our first year, he sort of possessed one of our teachers. In our second year, he used his diary to hypnotize one of my girl friends. Almost killing her in the process... I was petrified, like a statue. Luckily Harry and Ron handled it perfectly on their own, fighting a basilisk.'

'A what?' Rebekah exclaimed.

'There are a lot of creatures you do not know about. But, in our third year there was a serial killer on the loose. At the end we found out he was Harry's godfather and was innocent, his friend who had be undercover as a rat for more than thirteen years had been the killer.'
Rebekah scrunched her nose.

'Fourth year was the Triwizard Championship, Harry was forced into. He fought a dragon and swam to the bottom of the lake. He found his way through a life threatening maze, only to accidentally end up in a graveyard. A friend of mine got killed there and Harry got tortured by Voldemort himself. He had returned. Harry escaped. Fifth year school changed, the ministry began messing with it. Umbridge forbid almost everything, so we started teaching ourselves how to defend ourselves. Voldemort began messing with Harry's mind and Harry's godfather got killed.'

Elena was in tears by now, so many things happened. And Hermione wasn't even talking about herself.

'Sixth year everyone knew Voldemort was back and they were scared, several attempts of murdering our headmaster. At the end he died, we were hopeless. He was the only one Voldemort was scared of. I cut of ties with my family, to keep them out of danger. Our seventh year we didn't even go to school, we tried to track down the pieces of soul Voldemort had torn. If we destroyed those we could destroy him. We camped, broke into the bank, broke into the ministry and broke into our own school. We fought and we killed. We got tortured and bruised, we lost people. And we almost thought we had lost Harry too, but he returned and killed Voldemort.'

Niklaus pulled her closer against his chest, not just to comfort Hermione. But also to calm himself down, he needed her near him. How could she have gone through so much at such a young age?

'No...' Elena began, grabbing everyone's attention. 'That's the basics, this is the storyline. But not what you felt.'

Hermione hesitated, 'It wasn't only rampage, it was... Harry and Ron were my friends and we had so much fun too. We've probably broken all the rules that existed on our school, we always stayed together. We laughed about our stupidity, mostly Ron's and Harry's stupidity. In our fourth year we had Yule Ball, which is kind of like prom. We danced. We sneaked around. But yes, I was torn apart and miserable at times.'

'I'm so sorry... I'm so incredibly sorry...' Elena muttered.

Hermione walked towards Elena and comforted her, 'Don't worry, it's okay.'

'Could you... you know... do some magic?' Stefan asked Hermione.

She nodded and took out her wand, pointing it at the coffee cup on the table. 'Wingardium Leviosa.'

Slowly it flew higher and higher, Jenna watched in amazement. Magic. She had never thought there would be more than vampires, werewolves and "spirit" witches.

'That's amazing!' Caroline exclaimed, 'What else can you do?'

'Lots, make things fly or disappear. Turn an animal in a goblet or vice versa. But there are dark spells too. The torturing curse, the killing curse and the curse to take over someone's mind. A spell to make blood pour out of you like a fountain. Let's just say the war wasn't pretty.'

Niklaus pulled Hermione back to him, and just held her. He would rip their hearts out, those bastards.
