❛ these violent delights have violent ends ❜
BLOOD red eyes scoured through my mind as his chalk-white face contorted in the faintest, most cynical of smiles. Beside him, Themis' features were illuminated by the flickering light of the fireplace; she appeared ill, her spark long lost in the man's shadow. Despite my attempts at standing aloof, I knew he had seen it all, from untold confessions to the utmost intimate desires.
The table waited in unperturbed, almost eerie, silence; they watched as their leader mercilessly rummaged through the thoughts of a teenage girl, yet only Narcissa Malfoy seemed to spare a glimpse of pity.
"Great daughters you have, Rhea," a high, chilly voice spoke, but the audience barely blinked, "I expect you to instruct them of their task."
I briefly glanced over to my mother, who looked much like she had sold an overpriced antique to old Borgin. Her plummy accent was received with a barely detectable snicker from Bellatrix Lestrange. "I will, my lord."
Albeit unbearable at times, his silence meant he wasn't unhappy, which I much preferred to a repeat of last year's visit to our house. In a split second, he Disapparated with a flick of his black robes, and one by one many Death Eaters followed suit. As fake courtesy, we were lead to the door by the Black sisters, whose mansion seemed to have grown a couple of degrees warmer without the snake-like figure. Out of the corner of my eye, I took notice of a familiar blond haired boy descending the stairs - it was the first time I had seen him since the last term, and he seemed to have grown taller.
But before I could take a better look, Themis was ushering me out of the door, much like she had been doing for the past six years.
