i was quickly frustrated by her answer. "but you're different now." i pointed out. "you aren't vain and interested in money like you used to be. you even volunteer your time with this charity organization."

she nodded her head in agreement.

"how did you change so much?" i wondered.

"i just realized that being like that wasn't going to bring me any happiness." she explained. "all my friends had money, but they were never actually happy. i had to stop being fake."

"but at least defend yourself." i argued.

but she gave a shake of her head. "things have a way of fixing themselves."

that's honestly my way of thinking. for the most part, i don't like fighting with people, even if i know they're wrong. like when i was in high school, i had a boyfriend named jonathan. but he didn't go to our school.

he lived in mexico and played for a professional football team, in its youth division.

we met when i visited family. but anyway, i wrote him a little note that i took a picture of and sent it to him so he could have a good day at football practice and then school in the afternoon. but after class i guess i dropped it.

and the popular girls found it.

and then they started spreading the rumor that i had a huge crush on a boy named jonathan from our class. it was so embarrassing. but i said nothing because i knew it wasn't true.

so eventually seeing that they didn't get a reaction out of me, they stopped making a big deal out of it after about a week.
