Life can be extremely difficult at times. An 18 year old juggling university alongside caring for their sick mother who is battling leukaemia, whilst also looking after a younger sibling who is constantly asking for their mother . I'm the only person left in the family to care for them both.

My Grandma and Grandad moved away 2 years ago, just 2 months before my mother got diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. It is a type of cancer which affects the white blood cells and in my mother's case has developed over the years.

My father passed away when I was 6. Although I cannot fully remember him, I remember the small pieces of information about him like how he'd take us all ice skating every Christmas Eve, he'd take us to the cinema once a month and each of us picked a movie each time. He died in a car crash whilst on his way home from work.

Anyway, back to the present. My boyfriend of 1 year Jacob Simpson is taking me out on a date tonight, and to say I'm excited is an understatement. We rarely have any time to go out together because we're both busy, him with his football schedule and me with helping my mother, brother and university. We met just under 2 years ago at one of his football matches which my best friend at the time dragged me to. He ended up kicking the football right at me, and immediately stopped playing to ask if I could was seriously injured and apologised profusely. Still to this day he apologises for that night.

"Babe are you ready?" Jacob shouts as he walks through the front door.

"Yeah, I'll be down in a minute" I shout back to him. Turns out it would take 5 minutes for me to be down but you know, being a girl takes a lot of effort at times.

"I'll be down in a minute" he mocks when I arrive downstairs

"Hey, you were the one who arrived early"

"My mum practically forced me out of the house because I kept changing my outfits and asking her if they looked ok" typical Jacob.

"Well does my outfit look good enough for this date?"

"Yes. You look stunning babe" he says before pulling me in for a kiss.

"You too I guess. Mama Simpson has style."

"I guess she does. Anyways, let's get going. We don't want to be late for our reservation"

Jacob had booked us a table on a balcony overlooking a stunning view of the city. It wasn't one of those expensive restaurants with all the fancy sounding and looking foods, it had simple yet delicious foods. We both ordered the same meals; tomato soup for starter, burgers and chips for our main course and then strawberry cheesecake for dessert. The view from the balcony topped of the date.

"Jacob, this date really is stunning. Thank you" I smile appreciatively at him

"No need to thank me, it's my duty as your boyfriend to take you out on little dates like these" he smiles back "And I just wanted to take your mind off of things at home"

"Thank you Jacob, I really do appreciate this"

"No worries. I just don't want you thinking too much about it, I mean I know you can't just stop thinking about it but I just wanted this date to take your mind off of it for at least an hour. How is she?"

"She's getting through the days really, you can really see that the chemo is taking its toll on her. It's just so hard seeing her like that, so vulnerable and lifeless"

"Hey, she's a strong woman your mum is. I know it's hard for you and you know I'm always here for you, always"

"I know, and I love you for that"

"I love you too. Shall we head to part 2 then?"
