Noel

The next day at work didn't seem to start off well. The girl that was stirring up trouble yesterday—who I found out was named Pamela—was causing yet another scene.

This time she was yelling at one of the members in my group, who I considered to be a good friend. This didn't sit well with me. I decided to try and ease some of the tension by stepping in. Little did I know that this would end badly.

"Excuse me, Pamela. What seems to be the problem here?" I asked trying to sound polite even if this whole ordeal upset me.

"This pathetic girl doesn't seem to think that my work meets the requirements of this project," she replied rudely.

"Well, I think she may have a point. This particular section could use a bit more detail. Other than that, it looks great," I added while looking at her work and also acknowledging her tremendous self-pride.

This did not bode well with her and she started throwing insults at me. At least, she wasn't yelling at my friend anymore.

I soon found out that she truly didn't take criticism well, at all. The situation quickly escalated into something physical, causing her to start packing punches at me. One landing straight to my jaw.

I tried to shield myself, but I didn't dare react. Knowing full well that it would only make things worse. My boss was already informed and making his way towards us. The attacks quickly ended.

"Pamela, this behavior will not be tolerated here and I'd like for you to please pack your things and leave," my boss sternly spoke, disregarding her. She quickly left the room fuming, and probably quite embarrassed. He then redirected his focus to me and seemed to look somewhat panicked.

"Noel, are you alright? There's a huge bruise forming along your jaw. You might want to get it looked at. Do you have any more injuries that you are aware of? Do you need me to call someone?"

"That's alright. I'm okay," I quickly dismissed it. Hoping for this whole incident to end. There was enough attention on me, to make me feel even more uncomfortable than I already was.

"You're sure? Take the rest of the day off. Or perhaps a few days." He stated, probably overreacting. I was honestly thankful for the break though. Despite being aware that the situation wasn't that extreme, it was still enough to shake me up.

As I left, I couldn't help but think about how Pamela was so quick to react. I was pretty relieved that she wasn't going to return and harm anyone else.

However, I was left with an immense amount of pain making it hard to think; certain that something was definitely wrong with the inside of my mouth. It was unfortunate, but what worried me the most, was how I was going to hide it from Oliver.
