It was homework day. I had too much homework to relax or sleep in, so I woke early to do my assignments. While doing my computer work in the afternoon the power cut and I found a glowing blue light in my room. It was a button that had appeared on my shelf. I heard a knock on the door, so I jumped and turned around, hiding the button behind my back. It was only my Mum coming in to tell me off for using the electricity too much. She left the room and closed my door, leaving me alone with the blue button. I spun around to examine it and found small black letters carved on it. They read “WISH”. I wanted to press it, but the thought of my parents was distracting me, they always blamed me when bad things happened and it was starting to annoy me. That was when it came to me. I will “WISH” for a new world.

I pressed the blue button, and suddenly regretted it. The floor vanished and I was falling, falling, falling. I stopped in midair and in the darkness I could just make out a feint light. It started drifting towards me. As it got closer, I realised that it was a piece of stone with glowing letters that read “What is it that you wish for?”

A few seconds later, a loud, booming voice read the inscription. “I wish for a new world,” I said, trembling. I heard a feint swish in the distance and before I knew it, I was in a peaceful sleep. When I opened my eyes, they immediately closed again because the light was too bright. After my eyes had adjusted, I saw a clean bedroom that looked just like it was in my dreams. “I’m dreaming”, I thought to myself. I started to look around, but soon after that a sharp knock interrupted me. In came my parents. “Great”, I said under my breath. “Time to get up sleepyhead”, my Mum said. It was only then that I realised that this was the real world and that I had been dreaming the whole time.
