Why We Don't Keep Secrets

Kylie's POV

"Whatcha guys talking about?" he asks, stealing the slice of pizza from my hand.

"The dance," Ethan responds.

I glare at Grayson for taking my pizza.

"So, Mr. Manners," I fake a smile, making sure the sarcasm is apparent, "Who're you gonna ask?"

"It's a surprise," he smirks.

I frown. The twins have never kept anything from me before... I don't like it.

Beep beep beep. I turn my head to see the alarm clock screeching at me. I throw my arm over the top, hitting the snooze button. Reluctantly, I swing my legs over the side and sit up. I rub my eyes and press the off  button on the alarm. Dragging myself across the room, I walk into Ethan's bathroom. (And no, Gray didn't actually make me sleep on the couch.)

"Morning," Ethan smiles with his toothbrush in his mouth.

I groan, pushing him out of the way. I look at my reflection and groan, this time sounding even more defeated. I start washing up. As I'm brushing my hair, Ethan finishes gelling his, pats me on the shoulder, then walks out.

"We're leaving in 10!" Grayson shouts from his room.

Ok, Kylie, you have to look your best this week. If Ethan asks you (hopefully), you have to be ready.

"I need more time!" I yell back.

I rush to the room, opening the drawer that holds all my things. Throwing on a black romper, I pull my hair up into a messy bun. I apply very little makeup. Ethan always tells me he thinks I look prettier without it. I slide into the living room, grabbing my backpack that's sitting against the wall. Ethan and Gray are sitting on the stools, checking their social media. They both look up as I approach the counter.

"Woah, is it just me or does Kylie look really different today... she actually looks decent," he jokes as if I wasn't standing feet from him.

"Shut up, Gray. I'll take that as a compliment," I say, lifting my chin.

I notice Ethan staring at me... I blush a little before taking the waffles they left for me in the toaster.

Ethan's POV

"Shotgun!!" Kylie calls, skipping to my car.

We get in and Grayson "cannonballs" into the back. As I pull out of the building's parking lot, I see Kylie in my peripheral, clearly thinking about something. Is she thinking about the dance?  To take her out of her daze, I plug in my phone and blast the music. As expected, she instantly snaps out of it and starts dancing and singing along. I let a chuckle slip. We jam out all the way to school.

Kylie's POV

I sit up front with Ethan. He starts driving and my mind can't help but wander. I decide to low-key "stalk" him to collect more information on who he plans to ask... Mid-daze, I hear one of my favorite songs and snap back to reality. Like most days, we spend the rest of the car ride jamming out.

We arrive at school just on time and I rush off to first period with Ethan. Abruptly stopping, we both casually walk in with the rest of the class. I take the seat behind him so he doesn't notice me staring at him instead of the board... We have all but one class together. It's the same routine each class: sit behind him and "observe" (in a non creepy way, of course).
