He turned and started to walk away now, with his hands back in his pockets. I watched him go, unable to believe that this was it. That he could say so much in so very little, and then just simply walk away afterwards.
“By the way, Naomi…” he said, turning to face me again, but still walking backwards.
“You look absolutely beautiful tonight – in case Raines is too stupid to say it.”
And there I was, left to both seethe and swoon in his wake. I watched him take a few more steps, and then with his usual Vampire speed, he turned into a blur that was across the lawn and down the street in seconds. Sighing, I closed the door and then leaned against it, closing my eyes to hold onto the memory of him.
Only time would be able to clarify this newness that was developing between us. I was so confused about everything: who he was, his true intentions, and where I stood in it all. But there was one thing that I was certain of: Tidus wasn’t just distancing himself to protect me from his family. He was distancing himself from me to protect himself too. H was worried that I would hurt him in ways that were far more emotional and intimate than physical.
Tidus was a monster with a heart, and he was fighting his damndest to protect it.
