The past four days have been strange, in a bad way. Bella was barely talking to me, and I didn’t know why. I don’t think I did anything... but I could be wrong. If only I could read her mind.

Maybe she was upset about Allura. She’s been testing herself for nine days. I can’t imagine how hard this must be for her. I feel terrible, but Allura also makes the rest of my family happy. I don’t know what to do.

Or maybe it’s about Charlie. He’s supposed to be coming next week to check on how Allura’s handling us and handling being without her family. According to her mind, she seems really happy for the first time ever. All we did was make her laugh.

Esme is learning how to cook for her. And she’s enjoying the gifts from Alice. Emmett is teaching her how to play video games, and Jasper is teaching her board games. She likes those better.

She loves hearing about Carlisle’s day, too. She seems really interested in the medical field. She is only three, though. Perspective changes. Rosalie likes to do everything with her. She’s always wanted a child, and feels like Allura will be the closest thing.

She’s not staying here forever. She can’t. Bella’s fighting hard enough. And she’s part of this family now, so everyone needs to respect that. They know what she’s going through. But I’m sure it’s only a fraction compared to what Bella’s actually going through. None of us has ever lived with a human. We’ve been around humans for eight hours a day at school, but that’s it. A Newborn constantly around a human? I’m so proud of Bella for keeping it together. I try telling her that every day but she still hasn’t said a word to me. I can’t even get the full sentence out before she walks away. Maybe I can—

“Edward.” Alice plopped down next to me on the couch. “Stop freaking out. My mind is gonna explode.”

“Sorry... Do you know why she isn’t speaking to me?”

“I do.” I couldn’t get into her mind to see the reason. She was blocking me, deciphering a book in another language. I growled.

“Oh, relax.” She was having another vision, and I saw her laughing with Bella somewhere in the woods. “We need to discuss that thing tomorrow. Time is running out. See you later.”

We had been working on the surprise for Bella for a while now. Hopefully we would be able to make more concrete decisions on it once we decided where we were all gonna live for the next few decades.

She ran out the door, heading to Bella. I’d kill to see what they were doing.

I kept track of her mind, but she got too far to reach... Well, I can be patient.

I can try, anyways.
