1944 9:45 A.M.
3 weeks after Sgt.Rhodes death
Knock knock knock
"Hello" Mrs.Rhode said
"Hi, I'm Paul. I'm in the U.S. Morin's Corps. May I come in?" Paul said
"Uhh sure." Mrs.Rhode said
Paul and Mrs.Rhode made there way to the living room.
"Would you like any coffee or cereal?" Mrs.Rhode asked
"No, thank you. But you may want to sit down for this." Paul said
"Why what's wrong?" Mrs. Rhode asked
"Your husband, Robert, he had his last mission 3 weeks ago." Paul said
"Yes I know. When's he supposed to get home?" Mrs. Rhode asked
"We'll get to that. But things went south. They found an outpost. It had many Japanese soldiers in it. Well they got them all. They thought but then a Japanese war ship containing enemy soldiers, unleashed about 200 enemies in your husband and his squad. They killed all the Japanese soldiers. But, well, your headband he's, dead. And so is your brother in law, Luke." Paul said
"What?" Mrs. Rhode said crying
"How? And how could Luke die too? He's only 16 how did he enlist?" Mrs. Rhode asked sobbing
"I don't know our best guess is, he snuck in. But your husband he went out a fighter he win the battle." Paul said
"Mom?" A random little boy said who had just woken up from a nap and sounded tired,
"Well who are you little guy?" Paul asked
Mrs. Rhode breathed in through her nose to move snot out of the way wiped her tears off and said "this is Sean, Roberts son. Robert had never met Sean."
"Oh, well I Best be going I have to visit you Roberts parents." Paul said
"Here these are his ashes, he wanted to be cremated." Paul said
Paul handed them to Mrs. Rhode. And started to walk to the door. He put his hand on the door knob but turned around and said " He's home now."
"What" Mrs. Rhode said
"Your husband he's home now." Paul said
"Now I must be going. I'm sorry for your loss. And you, your father was a great man. One of the Marine corps best men." Paul said
"Is my daddy dead?" Sean asked
"Yes he is." Mrs. Rhode said
"Goodbye." Paul said
He walked out the door got in his car and was never seen again.
