This story is actually a plan for a proper novel that I was planning. I decided to write a mini short story as a way of planning the short story and this happened.... It jumps a lot of time and is very confusing but that's because I shrunk a long novel into a thousand or so words. Hope you like and pls tell me what you think. I am not turning it into a novel yet and the ending will be very different I just had to end it abruptly. So I'm sorry about that :) it isn't the best but it was just some rush thing I did. If I do decide to turn it into a novel it won't be for a long time as I have two trilogies I'm writing, one dulogy and a stand alone novel, possibly more. Anyway I will stop babbling now, hope you enjoy!
----------//////////////////////-------------
Miani Reynolds is dead. She was murdered. Only one thing was left at the scene of the crime, the petal of a rose. The symbol of love and damnation in a perfect society. Miani was an innocent girl whom simply wanted to be rid of laws and wished to express herself. She is dead and it is a secret so shhh don't tell anyone.12 years after the death of Miani not one law was broken, not a single crime, it was a perfect society, everyone was civilized but whether they were happy is a whole other matter. This is a story of a boy, a boy from Utopia, the perfect society but names can be very deceiving...
A voice echoes through the chasm of my ears as a drift between consciences. I think I'm in class but I'm just soo tired. Someone's yelling, it sounds familiar. Probably nothing...
"Peter, Peter!" Yells my teacher, I knew the voice was familiar, "Peter, wake up for heavens sake." I jump at the realization. I should be embarrassed, everyone's laughing at me, but I'm just soo tired. Tired of the politics and laws. Who cares that we used to be uncivilized when it's just a matter of the past. Why can't we just talk. I begin to drift off again.
"What did you say?" Questions my teacher as I realize that I just said everything aloud.
"Nothing ma'am, nothing at all," I say. I really hope that I don't get sent to the doctor. Or worse, a psych ward. ugh.
"That's it Peter. Go home, get some sleep. The principle is coming in next week and if your anything like you are you will be sent to a psych ward,"
"Wait did I say that out loud to?"
"Yes, you did Peter, now pack up,"
Shit, I have no clue whether I'm talking in my head or not. I'm surely insane or am I just sleep deprived. I have no clue these days. I pack up my bag and walk out the door. I wish I could sleep, but I doubt that will happen anytime soon. Not with what's going on. You never know who's watching you sleep. Oh yea sorry I skipped a little bit. A couple of days ago this dude at school found a single rose growing in the middle of the oval. The police came in and not long after the boy went missing. The news says that he ran away but we all know the truth. He went following the flowers, like Miani. He's probably long gone by know and the government know it but they find their precious crime rate too valuable to damage with another murder. And know you know why I can't sleep. They say if you see a rose in your sleep then your next. It's easier not to sleep at all. But I'm just...sooo...tire......Aaargh I scream as panic strikes me, I fell asleep. I scourge through my memories relieved to find that not one rose had entered my mind that night. *Phew. Today was easier, I was more alive but at the cost of being more terrified. Today six roses where on the basketball court. Six victims have been chosen. Which means six people saw a rose. Luckily I have no clue what one looks like so I'm safe. For now. After school I walked slowly home to find, police? I run to the door and my sister is in tears. She saw the rose. In the past 2 weeks 15 people have gone missing but she is the first girl. I grab my sister and sit her on my lap, reassuring her. Well more like reassuring myself.
The next day I keep my sister by my side 24/7. Three of the chosen have disappeared. My sister is safe...so far...I handcuffed my sister to me. I can't lose her.
It's been a week since she saw the rose. Five of the six are gone and seven more followed. All males. I grow more fearful everyday.
I see a girl, she walks towards me, quizzically, wait no. It's a rose... I ask "what are you? What do you want?" I hear no reply but instead my sister holding it's leaf...but wasn't she hand cuffed to me. Panic and anxiety surge through my blood like a poison threatening to engulf me whole. "Give her back! What do you what with her!" I scream outraged by this, this, this thing! An echo rumbles from over the mountains behind me, "she will replace me and rid this world of all possible evil..."
"What evil? Do you mean the boys you have taken?" I scream hopelessly at the sky.
"I mean those whom threaten nature and life in its most valuable form,"
"But they are just children. Why not take the adults?!"
"I will remove the burden of all whom do not value the purity of life in all it's forms, soon enough,"
"But why my sister!" I hear no reply for several minutes but then I see it. A blood red rose in the midst of the sky. I am next...I wake up in a panic. My sister is still laying next to me. It was just a dream. The handcuffs are still on my arm. I still have time. Or so I thought...The next morning I pack a bag for my sister and for myself and steal the keys for my dads jeep. I drive it out into the bush searching for the place I saw in my dreams.
"Where are we going Peter?" Asks my sister.
"To find a way to save us. We will be free Marley," I reply in my most confident voice. We ditch the car at the border of the forest. We begin to walk, watching in case someone or something is watching us.After two long days of walking we finally reach it. The field surrounded by mountains. The field in my dreams. The rose lay in the middle so I run towards it to ensure that it can never hurt another soul when a powerful wind drags me back. I can't, get, there. I scream in anger as my sister is ripped from my arms. Just as I begin to fight the wind I see it. The rose, is turning into a girl. It looks like... No, it can't possibly be..
"Miani?" I say. The wind changes and I am pushed forward where I see it all. Every person that the rose has taken. They are all here.
"Am I dead?" I cry out to the girl before me, Miani, in her red, rose, dress.
"No, your alive. You proved you were pure when you protected your sister. You will survive the plague that will kill the mean who were not saved by the rose.
"What about the woman," "they will be chosen after the men, don't doubt this. It's the will of Mother Nature. The will of the rose," and with those words, I became free of the dystopian world that claimed to be a utopia...
