PART ONE:
Chapter One: Getting back
It’s funny, how you can be angry at your alarm clock every day for not letting you sleep, but when it doesn’t go off, you get mad because it didn’t wake you up.
The buzz from the alarm clock awoke Niall with a start. He sat up in bed and pushed his hair back from his forehead with his hand. He took in a deep breath and thought what he said to himself every morning- Your name is Niall Horan, you used to be part of One Direction. Harry is dead, and you are here to study.
He came up with this checklist himself when one day he was feeling particularly rational. It was hard for all of the boys to keep their lives in check after such a horrible tragedy, but Niall had vowed to himself that he would go on with his life, no matter how much it hurt. One day, he just went down to Ohio State University and went in and spoke with the counselor. Since traveling across America with the band, he remembered this school was a good one. When Harry died, the band split up and the boys parted ways. Niall didn’t want to go back home, he missed it terribly, but for some reason knew he had to move on on his own and not go back to Ireland.
So he applied for college. And he got in. It was a surprise to him as well, but he had good grades in high school and worked hard to get there. He did everything he needed to to get back in. He didn’t exactly understand why though. He wasn’t exactly motivated. He just knew he had nothing better to do. Be hoped inspiration would strike if he did something with his life. Besides, he had the money for college. Why not?
So he got out of bed and made himself breakfast. He lived alone in a small apartment across from the school. He had Advanced Biology in an hour, so he showered and got dressed. He gathered up his stuff for class, excited to go to school.
Why you might ask? Not because he liked learning. Not because Biology was particularly his favorite subject. In fact, it may be entirely the opposite. No, he was excited because he had biology class with Kacey - His girlfriend.
They met in bio at the beginning of the year. She was pretty and blonde and most of all, confident. Which is why Niall fell for her the first time he saw her. She was so smart, why would a girl like her want a broken guy like him? I guess his charm won her over though, because when a group of him and his new friends were going to go out to eat and they asked her to come with, she said yes. It ended up that she and Niall spent the whole night together just chatting in a booth, getting to know each other. They started to really like each other, and it showed when Niall asked her out for real after bio one day and she said yes. Niall had been in a pretty good mood ever since. Well, the best mood a guy who lost his best friends and his career in such a short time at such a young age can be.
So since they started dating a few months ago, and Niall was excited to see her again. They had a few good dates since he first asked her out. Every morning he looked forward to seeing her again. She always lit up his day. She was the kind of person he wanted to be. Sweet, smart, kind, and always focused and in a great mood. He loved her, because she loved him back. She gave him the kind of compassion he needed. She took his mind off the mess his life truly was.
When it was time to leave, he got his things and left his little apartment. He walked across the street to the campus. His bio class was in the main building, so he walked in and went to the classroom. He entered through the door slowly and looked inside. She was there, talking with a group of friends in in the middle of the classroom. He walked in further and she spotted him. Almost magnetically, she left her group of friends and approached him. He dumped his stuff on the table next to him and took her in his arms as she got closer. She hugged him back and he proceeded to kiss her lovingly. He broke the kiss quickly so neither of them would get in trouble.
