I've never been conscious about my age, I'm not the oldest compared to my colleagues but I'm certainly not the youngest among the doctors that worked in our hospital. A solo child who was orphaned young, I learned early how to live by myself. I worked odd jobs most of high school and through my college. Not that I rejected my relatives' offers of help, I did want to be independent.

"P'Bright! You're still on with tomorrow's party right?" I looked up to one of my younger colleagues, Doc. Beam, reminding me of his invitation. Well, I didn't have any plans for tomorrow anyway, I nodded to him in response. It's Christmas today and sadly, we're on duty for the next 18 hours. I've been friends with Beam and his gang since the day they started working here. Beam's nice and really cute, I would have gone for him if he's still single. Unlucky thing about his gang of crazy doctors, they're all tied down, I'm lucky to be not one of them. I enjoy my freedom.

Beam has been planning this post-Christmas party for a month now, and knowing the party guy that he is, I know it would be lit. That's what they call it now, right? I would go, definitely. All I had to lose was a little time and gas. The party was at a bar owned by one of Doc. Beam's engineer friends. I've been there once before and so I know the way. As I made the short drive, I wondered again who would be at the party.

I waited outside in the parking lot scanning the place and the people going in when I noticed some familiar faces. A cousin of mine and some of his friends were making their way to the front door. I laughed to myself. Why should I be surprised that Doc Beam knows my cousin Knock? That guy has a very wide circle of friends.

What made me smile more, however, was the little guy tailing Knock and Korn. He was even better looking now than I last saw him. His darker hair a little longer than mine, dreamy brown eyes, and full pouting lips made me yearn to take him in my arms and kiss him. I followed them in ten minutes after.

"P'Bright, oh you're here. Come here Phi, I'd like you to meet a friend of mine." Nong Wayo called from his seat just as I entered the bar. He's always the first one to greet me, earning me a penetrating look from his boyfriend, Doc. Phana. Possessive husband, I do understand.

The party has started early and I'm not surprised to see some of the guest already slumped on the sofa, staking claim of a precious space. The place was mostly empty save for the few invited people, I see, this is an exclusive party. I looked around the room searching for familiar faces, Knock and his friends were over at a table near the stage, and a rowdy looking crowd claimed the table next to the doc gang, and a few others I don't know. In all, there were about thirty people present.

The doc gang and their partners were all present, deep in a conversation. Wayo was draped over Phana's lap. I could tell Phana would rather have a one-on-one party with his boyfriend than spend his time sitting here.

"Yo! You're not supposed to be giving away my boyfriend. How could you?" Boyfriend? A slurred voice complained to Wayo's right. Another little guy, cheeks flushed pink fighting hid drunkenness.

"Hey, I'm here baby. Nong Yo's not giving me away." Replied the guy sitting beside him.

"I wasn't talking about your boyfriend Rome. I'm talking about a bright, Bright." Wayo responded automatically, making the former laugh in fits along with the crowd around him, to the expense of the latter. The guy dismissed the insult by smiling at his little boyfriend while showing his middle finger to the rest.

"Doc. Bright! Finally! I thought you were bailing out." Doc. Beam welcomed me, then started making introductions.

I settled into the crazy doc gang's table and was on my second bottle of beer when Wayo came upon me, smiling. "P'Bright, I'd like you to meet a friend of mine." He said. That's when I noticed the other guy he was dragging to my space.
