I looked pretty damn sexy in my dark red dress and wedge heels.

Well...let's be clear, the heels weren't mine, I borrowed them from Lucinda, but the red dress with slits in the side and an open back, that was mine.

I bought it with a leather black jacket and the dress/jacket combo made me look like the biggest badass to have ever lived.

If it was any other day I would've been uncomfortable with my boobs spilling over the cups of the dress, but today I wanted to look sexy and untouchable. I wanted to look like someone to be taken seriously.

Also, I wanted to tease Evan.

I know there was to be a large meeting between everyone in the Midnight Indigos pack and the other packs, so I headed toward the large auditorium where I thought everyone might be meeting.

The Indigos had pooled their money around 3 years ago and had this huge auditorium built for the pack. Everything from story time to war meetings took place in that gorgeous auditorium. Stepping into it, I admired the murals on the walls and the chandelier overhead, smiling at the beauty of it all. It looked like a fancy playhouse theater. Except, in a playhouse, there is usually muffled and polite conversation, while in here there were rowdy, boisterous laughs, and people covering every inch of the floor; no one was making use of the plush colored seats.

Only after I stepped into the auditorium did I begin to question my decision to come here. Here I was, a stupid human, walking into a room filled with fucking werewolves, only days after I'd already been attacked by one.

"Adora!," Gina scolded me, "your mate is a werewolf, and you were attacked by a rouge, not a normal werewolf. Don't make such hurtful generalizations!"

I huffed at her but kept silent, my eyes searching for my Adonis-of-a-mate. When the werewolves noticed I was there, they got silent, small groups just ceased speaking. Trying to avoid being the center of attention, I quickly ducked my head and weaved in between the crowds, trying to find Evan without causing a huge scene.

Eventually, I saw him, standing beside his dad, Alpha Ax, a huge group of other terrifying looking adults and their children. There were small groups dispersed throughout the room, but Evan was standing in the largest one yet, quietly speaking with other kids up there around his age. The adults were talking among each other, the kids were talking among each other, but they were all standing near their families, making sure to remain within their familiar group.

"Shit, shit, shit," I cursed myself, "I can't go up there!"

Anxiety built up through me as I took in the situation. I walked into this really important Werewolf Union meeting, while they were discussing whether or not to fight a war, in the hopes of teasing my boyfriend, who was talking with the most powerful werewolves in the world.

Real fucking smart Adora.

Just as I was turning to leave, I caught Evan's eyes and I immediately froze. When he first spotted me, a grin stretched across his face, then that smile slowly morphed into fear, and then fury. A large hand clamped down onto my arm and a man yelled, "Hey! We have a human!"

I was dragged forward, toward the stage by a large, tall black man, who had striking light brown eyes, and huge bulging arms. Evan surged forward toward me, but Mark put a hand onto his chest, holding him back.

Alpha Ax held up a hand toward the man, stating calmly, "Ah, thank you Isaiah. This is Adora. She was one of the most recent victims of the rogue attacks, and, she is the mate of our future beta."

Gasps echoed throughout the room as everyone looked between Evan's furious face, my fearful one, and Ax's intimidating one.

Immediately he let go of my arm, taking a step back. "I'm so sorry, I didn't know."

With wary eyes I watched as Isaiah took steps back from me, rubbing my arm as he did. Ax gestured for me to join them on the raised platform and I quickly walked up toward Evan who pulled me into him tightly.

"Now that that drama has quieted the room," Ax began, "Hello, and welcome. We are gathered here today to discuss the recent rogue attacks that have been affecting our packs throughout the nation. One of our own from the Midnight Indigos pack was just killed the other day.

"Our holy water has been disturbed, innocent people within our communities are dying, and the police are poking around where they shouldn't be because of it. It is time that we stop these rogues forever.

"Tonight will be a relaxing night; each of the packs have been assigned their specific areas and they will take time to get to know each other. The top ranking members will meet with each other to discuss their thoughts on the situation. After that initial meeting, all of the top ranking officials pool their thoughts in one room tomorrow night for more discussion. We will reach a consensus by then. There isn't time to waste. I hope that this problem can be handled as quickly as possible."

Without any other words being said, Alpha Ax walked off of the platform and the meeting was dismissed. A group of large men and women came over to talk to Evan and I began to feel really anxious and nervous. My head got a little dizzy and I didn't say much. There were so many people around and I felt enclosed. I chatted with a few people, small talk. They asked me my name and where I was from. I asked them how they were enjoying Georgia. Small bullshit. Time seemed to blur at least until he and I were the last ones in the auditorium.

I had forgotten how much I hate large crowds of people.

Neither him nor I said much of anything for the first couple of minutes we were alone. I was trying to get rid of the entrapped feeling, and I think Evan was simply mulling over the pack's problems.

"Adora," he began, cupping my face, "what were you thinking coming into here like that?"

Feeling as if I could breathe at last, I pushed his hands away and nestled myself into his chest, loving the comfort he provided me with.

He was the only one who had ever made me feel safe.

"I wasn't thinking much. At first I just wanted to tease you, but then I didn't know how to escape once I had gotten in here. There were so many werewolves and I felt like the mouse who had just walked into a trap. I knew I couldn't turn around, so my only option was to try and find you."

Evan tilted my face back to stare me in the eyes, "Seeing Isaiah's hands on you made me want to tear his throat out, especially after noticing the pure terror on your face. I didn't bring you with my today because I knew these people were volatile when it came to humans and I didn't want you hurt. Next time, don't follow me."

I swallowed the rock in my throat and whispered, "but I thought we were a team, I go where you go and you go where I go."

"We are," he hushed, nuzzling my ear softly, "but not when it comes to dangerous situations."

Anger sparked in me, "so you mean to say," I took a step back, "that you can put yourself in danger and can make me worried, but I can't follow you into danger because it'll make you worried? Isn't that a bit hypocritical Evan?"

His face turned dark and he frowned down at me, "I don't care if it's hypocritical or not! I can't see you get hurt! End of discussion."

I turned away from him and stomped toward the back door, "you can't just end a discussion. You aren't the boss of me. I care about you just as much as you care about me. I don't want to see you get hurt. You can't force me to stay on the sidelines while you try to do something stupid. If that's what you want, then I can't be there to see you get hurt. Come get me when you get your head out of your ass."

Then I marched away. So much for teasing him.

Stupid fucking stubborn werewolves.
