"Oh, um...I think this is yours." Loki said an hour later, and handed me a pocketknife.

"It's the one I threw at you..." I said, looking at it.

"You mean the one you tried to kill me with."

"It was self defense..."

"From me?"

"Of course! And besides, you dodged it!"

"Because you threw a bloody knife at me! Do you expect one to just stand there stupidly while a knife is being thrown at them?"

"I knew you'd dodge it."

"You didn't know that."

"Yes I did. You saw it coming, don't deny it."

"Why in the world would you throw a knife at me when you knew I'd dodge it?"

"To get to the door. To get away from you."

"Why would you-?"

"Do you not remember what happened that night?"

I saw in his expression that he remembered.

"Exactly. The night you tried to take advantage of me." I said.

"It was all a test!"

"Well that test was unecessary."

"It was completely necessary."

"Sure it was." I sunk down into the couch.

"Lilliana, I can't tell you how sorry I am. But it was completely necessary. You've got to believe me on this one." He sat down next to me.

I looked at him. "You're a real jerk, you know that?"

"So I've been told."

"Can't believe I ever fell for you..." I muttered.

"What was that?" He asked.

"Nothing." I said quickly.

"No, I heard you say something. What was it?"

"Nothing." I said, and leaned against his shoulder.

Somehow, I felt something for him, and I hated myself for it...after all the things he'd done...

Loki P.O.V.

We sat there in silence for a few minutes.

"Today was weird." She said. "I don't even know what happened back there with those people."

"Neither do I." I answered. "But I think that may be the reason why the Levia came looking for you."

"We can always figure that out later." She said.

There was a few more minutes of silence, the only sounds were the clock, which was ticking somewhere in the kitchen, and the waves crashing against the sandy shore not far off. In the far distance, I heard the restaurant across the street. I looked down at Lily, I saw her breathing was slow and even, and I realized she had fallen asleep.

I realized that on the back of the couch, there was a light blanket, and I unfolded it and placed it gently over her, then slowly stood up, her head now resting on a nearby pillow. I bent down and kissed her forehead.

"Sleep well, Lily." I whispered, then stood up straight and walked out onto the balcony.

I leaned against the railing and saw the white foam of the waves when they reached shore. There was a small campfire not far away along the beach, where a small group of people were talking and laughing, a van parked on the sand not far away from them.
