Chapter Two
Surprise
Yuuno’s eyes narrowed into slits. My worst suspicion is just been confirmed, he thought bitterly. She really knows something.
He forced himself to smile. “Liuna, there is no need for sarcasm. Can you just please tell us what is it?”
Liuna eyed him warily. “Crucix, Yuuno?” she asked after a few minutes.
“Yes.”
“I will tell you if you tell me your true identity.”
…
Inside the listening room, Reyna, Jamie, and Chief Blog strained to hear the conversation now done in murmurs.
Suddenly, Yuuno looked at the camera. “Chief, can you please drop the camera and audio?”
Reyna’s eyes got big. “What? You idiot, that’s an immortal! We can’t possibly leave you having a conversation with her without us knowing it!”
Liuna raised an eyebrow. “Your lover?” she asked, slightly amused.
Yuuno felt sweat on his face. “N-no, just a co-worker.” Then, he turned again at the camera. “Please? Just a few minutes. This is urgently needed.”
Jamie nodded. “Okay.”
“Dad!” Reyna screamed.
“It’s just a few minutes, Reyna.”
“Your lover’s a little too loud, Mr. Detective.” Liuna commented.
And so, after Liuna’s comment, the camera snapped shut, the audio disabled, and they can no longer record everything happening in the confinement room.
…
After what seems like forever, Yuuno got out. Reyna and Jamie were waiting for him at the parking lot.
“What took you so long, idiot?”
Yuuno merely looked at them, then went past them, boarded his own car.
Reyna was puzzled. “Has the immortal put a spell on him, father?”
“No.” Jamie said, he knew that Yuuno would report everything to him at the police station.
At the police station, however, was a different story. Both Jamie and Reyna were shocked when Yuuno dumped on Jamie’s desk his file, resignation file.
“Yuuno? What’s this?” Jamie asked in shock.
“Resignation file, sir.” Yuuno replied, as if nothing’s wrong.
“Idiot! You can’t possibly-”
“I can. I have to. And I don’t want you involved.”
Reyna felt the tears threatening to fall. Yuuno was never deliberately mean. “Yuuno?” she whispered, voice barely audible.
“Don’t worry, Reyna. The witch didn’t put a spell on me. I just have to do this. This is dangerous.”
“Let me come with you!”
“Out of the topic.” Yuuno snapped at her.
“I won’t sign this.” Jamie declared, shoving the paper on Yuuno’s chest. Both Yuuno and Reyna looked at him.
“This is idiot things. Yuuno, you should know better than this.”
Yuuno chuckled. Then, he walked away but not before looking over his shoulder and saying, “You’re right. I do know better than this. But maybe you won’t like it, sir.”
