So, Hudson has a talent. I am not one to get angered easily at all, really. It has always been hard to even get on my bad side. Period.

However, Hudson? Oh, that boy knows the exact buttons to push to drive me absolutely batshit.

Which is why, after third period lets out and it is time for lunch, I practically run to meet up with Tabby as Hudson goes and sits at the table with Tanner.

Jesus, I thought that class would never end. So far the only class Hudson and I don't have together is second period and something tells me that will be one of the only. Do they do this on purpose? Is this Principal Taylor's way of getting back at me for constantly getting into conflicts with her son?

Actually, that makes sense. That's probably what's going on here.

I eventually spot Tabby in the lunch line and meet with her, cutting in front of a bunch of people but none of them complain so I don't apologize.

By the time we get our food and everything, our table has everyone at it except Sam-who is in the bathroom, according to Tabby-and I immediately sit in the spot farthest from Hudson, across the table from him.

We all begin eating and chatter continues on as normal. The mood is as it usually is with our group, however, that changes as I start on my fries and spot part of the reason for my misery across the cafeteria in a booth with a few other girls.

Lily is sitting at a table, laughing and drinking what looks like an orange juice as she talks-somewhat enthusiastically-to the girl across from her.

I sigh, resting my cheek in my hand, leaning on the table as I helplessly stare at her in pure self pity and slight longing.

She's pretty, she's got pale blonde hair and
doe brown eyes. She's got a heart shaped face and slightly thin eyebrows. She has full lips and a soft jawline and-

"Hey, who're you staring at?"

I snap out of my trance to find Tanner with a raised brow. I then notice that the whole table is staring at me and my face immediately flushes. I scratch my neck and look down at my lap.

"He and Lily broke up." Tabby states, rubbing my shoulder in sympathy as I take a deep breath. There comes the ache in my chest again, and it's sad that I'm so used to this feeling.

I glance up to find everyone looking in the direction that I had been. Well, everyone except one. Hudson has his eyes trained on me. Or, he did, until I met his eyes.

Eventually everyone turns back around to me;

"Why?" Carter asks, and this time I decide to answer;

"Same reason it always is."

I then stretch my arm out and lay my head on it, still staring at Lily with no doubt a very depressing look on my face.

They all immediately understand, and Tabby moves on to rubbing my back.

"Come on, dude, she was kind of a bitch anyway," Tanner supplies. I just kind of shrug, closing my eyes, my fries completely forgotten.

"Yeah, Lichen, get someone who won't friend zone you."

I look up, frowning. Once I realize it's Hudson that said that, my frown turns right into a glare.

"I'm doing my best," I defend, tilting my head towards my arm slightly as I don't break our eye contact.

"Clearly not enough."

I glare harder, "oh yeah? Then go right ahead and try. How about you set me up with someone if you think it's so fucking easy."
