In the darkness, i stood against the damp side wall of the cabin. Thin rays of sunlight were cutting trough the gaps in the planks of the wooden wall. The zombies grunts pierce through the old, closed door right by me. My hands are empty as i try to feel around for some kind of weapon to protect myself with. My fingers then slide through a thin pool of some kind of liquid. I raised my hand and got the smell of blood. Outside i hear the zombies growling and howling still so close to the door.
I wait for about 10 minutes which seemed like forever. In that time i remember months back to when this all began and thinking how i actually got into this mess in the first place.
I wake up in my bedroom to the noise of my TV blaring the news out loud and helicopters flying around outside. I can't really remember much, all i can remember is drinking some Voka, chaos on the streets, my roommate packing her suitcase and then police cars lining up along outside the main border crossings.
I take a glance around my bedroom in hope that my roommate Molly could help make sense of this mess. My eyes finally adjust to the light however, the vodka hangover was a sharp kick back to the head. My mouth tastes like mud and the big rollarcoaster ride that i was having on my bed from my hangover is insane.
I had my football practice today and coach will kick my arse if i'm not there, but then again he wouldn't really want me throwing up on the field.
I managed to fall asleep again and started dreaming about the past few months.
In my time off i did many productive things such as playing games and taking target practice with my fake gun.
I have always loved guns. I went to target practice once a week with a different variety of guns from an automatic pistol to a semi-automatic rifle. I started to get better and better when i got the attention of Daniel, the owner who i useally accompanied to a scheduled range to fire heavier machine guns.
I suddenly awaken in my bedroom. On the table next to my bed there is a bottle of aspirin on it's side with the contents spilled. I then notice a note on my desk addressed to me Rebecca Bentley. The note reads:
Rebecca,
Sorry for not being here when you woke up. I am heading out to get some things before we leave. You were sick, so I didn't wake you, but the city is getting worse, and we need to get out. Be ready when I'm back!
Molly
I now have a heavy nauseous feeling in my gut. The clock says 8:30pm meaning Molly hasn't been home for hours. I go into the living room and drop down onto the sofa and turn on the TV where there is an anchorman reporting.
"The White House has just announced that 20% of the world has now become infected with the virus ZED. Reports are coming in from around the globe that when the virus has killed the victim, it seems to re-animate the corpse causing them to bite......". I block out the rest of what he is saying and worrying more about Molly and that she is out there somewhere.
I appear outside of the window of my house from the 2nd floor, i notice crowds of people formed outside. sirens suddenly start to blare out loud as police vans and cruisers go up and down the streets patrolling, along with news helicopters swarming overhead. I then suddenly remember.... "THE INFECTION" i shout with fear. I had only heard about it a few days ago. Molly mentioned about reports from work at the hospital where some kind of fatal and highly contagious virus was spreading like wild fire!
Lights then begin to flicker and the TV cuts off. Lights stream through my house. I then hear some movement in the hallway rushing my door in the lobby. All is silent. i then wait and listen. Pressing my ear against the hard wooden door is silence.
I move back to the TV and try switching the power on and off but nothing happens. The lights from outside coat the room. Time is creepy by as i'm wondering what my next move will be.
I hear a sharp scratching noise seeping through the ceiling. I end up spinning in a full circle; from the sound of the floor above. The scratches then turn into these loud, ear piercing screeches. The sound carrys on getting louder and louder for a few minutes then just stops.
