Chapter 2: The 'Incident'
Two days later. I'm sitting in front of a computer, in my IT tech support class, looking at a photo of Amy on my phone. I give out a sad sigh, I was thinking about what Dante said in physics class 2 days ago. My friend Sean notices me looking at my phone and asks with a worried look, "Hey Jacob, you alright?" I say with a sad voice, " Yeah I'm fine."
"You don't look fine to me, come on, spill the beans."
"OK," I turn to him, "Its just I'm worried."
"About what?"
"Me and Amy."
"What happened, you thinking about breaking up with her?"
"No, more the other way around, its just that 90% of high school relationships end in 1 or 2 months."
"Well thanks Mr. Wiki," he says with a smile on his face. I give him a straight face and his smile disappears, "What are you worried about, that your gonna be part of that 90%?"
"Kind of."
"Look, I highly doubt that she is going to dump you, you're a good guy, she is lucky to have a guy like you."
I smile a little, "Thanks man, your girl is lucky to have you too." We exchange smiles and continue to work. After the last bell rang in Physics, Dante and me shook hands and said goodbye. I went to my locker and put my physics book in and took my pre-calculus book out and into my book bag. I rush to Amy's locker, pushing other kids aside as they are going for the exit, and get to it before she does. I see her walking towards the locker and I kiss her on the cheek and hug her, "Hi Amy, listen I can't stay after school today because I have a lot of homework and I need to help my dad with the car." Her face is sad, "Whats wrong Amy, are you alright?"
"Yeah I'm fine," she said in a low voice
"Are you sure you don't look alright?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine definitely," she turns to me and smiles.
"OK, I gotta go now, I love you." I give her another hug and kiss goodbye and I walk away. I turn around when I'm at a good distance and I see her turn to the side. Then I see the same person I saw on Monday, this time I recognize that its a guy , shorter than her with longish hair, hugging her, and they walk away. I thought nothing of it and went to my house to help my dad.
On Friday is where the fuse was lit, I didn't know it at the time but it would take 7 days to run out of the fuse. It was a normal day, first there was pre-calculus, did some group work didn't mind it too much. Next, IT tech support, before that class started I saw Amy and I gave her a hug and had a tiny conversation until I went to class, nothing really interesting happened. Last two classes were ceramics, where I finished a clay pot and physics where we did a test, it was pretty easy. When class ended, went to my locker, went to Amy's locker, said goodbye to her, went on home, I was the happiest kid in the world, no homework, free weekend, awesome girlfriend, how much better can it get? Then at approximately 4:30 pm she messaged me, asking me why I went out with her in the first place. I told her that she was beautiful and smart, that's why I went out with her. I asked her the same thing and she said because I was smart and funny. Then she asked, "what if we took a break?" Her reasoning was that she was not used to dating new guys like me, she said that she dates friends so she wanted to get to know me. I was blinded by love so I took her word for it, so that's when she broke it off.
Now, 7 days later, the day of the 'Incident', the terrible incident. It pains me every day to think about that Monday, February 24, 2014. Another normal Monday, went to all my classes, had a test in a few that didn't bother me too much. I had a packet due though in a few days, but it could wait, also finished another project in ceramics. When all was said and done, it was an average day. I decided for all my hard work that I shouldn't stay after school. The bell rung, alerting every teen in that school that school was done for the day. I still decided to visit Amy, just because we're friends now doesn't mean I can't still visit her and say goodbye. So I do just that, I wait at her locker to have a little conversation and I'm done. I see her, I smile at her being happy to see her, she smiles back. While she opens her locker I ask, "Hey Amy, how was your weekend?"
