How The Disease Came To Be

As Hydro looked behind her, she saw two enormous...wings? Her jaw dropped and she looked at the merpony, eyes begging for some sort of explanation. The merpony looked at her, sighed, and began to tell the story.

Once there was a handsome young pony, son of a very wealthy and kind family. He would give money to those in need, and help those who needed him the most. One day, the handsome young pony fell in deep love, with a young merpony. Everyday he would go to see her, and everyday she would turn him away. "We cannot be together, I belong in the water, you belong on the land," she told him. "Nothing can keep our love apart", he would say. This was all very fine, until one day after being turned away, the young pony ventured into the woods. Suddenly an idea sprouted in his head. He could make a potion to give his love a pony form! So everyday he went hard to work, mixing and mashing. But that's the thing, he never accomplished it. Everyday he would pour his soul into the potion, and end up with no result. This slowly drove him crazy and he disappeared into the forest. Never to be seen again. The forest where he worked.. is now known as the Evergreen Forest. The forest tampered with the mixture, and soon it became a deadly disease, which spread to first the Evergreen creatures, and then to the ponies themselves.

As the young merpony looked up at Hydro, she saw eyes clouded with fear. "Was the merpony he loved... you?" She asked, wings trembling with fear. The young merpony nodded. "There is a special plant that you will need, but it is found only in the deepest depths of the ocean, guarded by a dangerous creature, known as the "Dead Soul". We will help prepare you, but this is your quest. And your quest alone", the merpony told Hydro. Hydro nodded and stood up, whacking a merpony in the face with her wings. "But first we teach you how to fly and use those wings in the water", the merpony told Hydro.
