After the funeral, everyone had gathered in a church for a feast.
Of course you didn't do much of eating, all you could think about was hearing his voice..
"Smile"
You looked around and watched people enjoy themselves.
You sighed and removed yourself from the room.
How could they go on like nothing happened?
You slowly walked the hallways when suddenly you heard a couple of foot steps, in a quick manner, coming towards you. You turned around to be greeted with a whif of a familiar scent.
Mark..
It smells of his cologne. The one he wore on the first day and everyday sheet that.
The memories of him flooded through your mind like wind turning the pages in a scrapbook.
For each memory there was a tear. Each warm with love and salted with pain.
/"Do you have a pen?" He asked./
The first conversation.
How long did he love you? How long did you make him wait?
How long did you make him suffer as he watched as you talked to every guy wondering if you liked them?
How long did you make him suffer to the point where he needed to change to make you notice him.
How long..
"_____.." The Irish voice snapped you back. You turned around to meet back with dull, teary eyes. "He.." He paused thinking careful of how to say it just the right way so he doesn't break down. "You were the only one he loved." He chuckled a bit to hold back his tears. "You were all he talked about from day one.. 'this girl was badass. She defeated all the kids; there and I was the only one to beat her!' He even said one day he was going to make you his wife... Thank you for giving him a chance."
Tears fell harder and faster as you fell into Jack's arms. You didn't give him a chance. You gave his bad boy persona a chance. Like Mark said, the real him you never noticed. You never noticed the ones who are considers at the lower end of the echelon. He had to change for you to so much even give a thought to, to look at, to even breathe in his direction.
You never deserved him.
You made him wait all those years. All those years you never knew he existed Until last year.
How could he love someone for so long from afar, and try so hard to get their attention?
Worse of all love you. You weren't anything special. You were just you.
You didn't care about the ones outside of your social group, unlike him.
You looked at Jack who looked back You with the same warm smile that Mark gives. "He wouldn't want you to cry.." He said as he wiped away your tears.
"You're beautiful.." You heard a faint voice..
It was like Mark's..
His deep soft voice.. The way it rumbled..
The way it vibrated And tickled your ears..
"How did you meet Mark?"
"Oh, well I had moved from Ireland, me father found a better paying job.." Jack took a moment as he began to recollect his memories from his painful past.
"I was put into American public school, and I was bullied.." He gave a light hearted chuckled. "..I was tormented, I hated going."
He seemed to be looking at something in the distant, something only he could see.
"Than one day, after my lunch was stolen, some kid sat down next to me. And it was cold outside and pouring rain. But sat down, gave me his jacket and shared his lunch with, while holding the umbrella."
A bitter sweet smile had crept upon his face somewhere while he told the story.
You both sat on the floor.
"Than when he started to talk about you, I felt jealous, I felt like I was going to lose him to you.. Because you were a girl. You could make him happier in ways I couldn't."
He sighed.
"And I did.. He did any and everything for you."
You both smiled while the warm tears fell. Synchronized, you both laughed out of embarrassment while wiped them away.
"I," you began, "Remember the forest say I met him.. And it was funny because I remembered the day just not him until he told me that it was him. And all of those times he borrow a pen from me.. And when I started to remember him when he changed.. I started to think about him once he did.."
You couldn't go on..
Guilt and sadness started to creep its way back, making your chest feel like dried concrete.
He's gone..
