I stopped smiling at Martha's enthusiasm when I saw Trey approaching with a furious expression on his face. My hands were sweating and I could imagine that my eyes showed a bit of fear in them. Martha noticed that too and looked behind her to see where my stare was fixed on. ''Out of my way.'' he snapped at Martha. She just looked at him, but still stepped out of his way.
''You cheated, didn't you! That's why you are so nervous now. Because you cheated! You could never beat me!''
''Ehhmmm. Hi to you too.'' I nervously replied. ''I'm sorry, but you are not talking like that to one of my co-workers, Thresh.''
''It's Trey.''
''Trey, Thresh. Same shit, different toilet. And behave. If not, then I should ask you to leave.'' Martha glared at him. Trey only nodded. Martha did the 'I'm watching you' motion with her hand and took off. She was now standing behind the kitchen door looking at us through the little round window. I shook my head at her silliness. That's why I love her. Trey was still glaring at me.
''I'm not done with you.'' he continued with a quieter tone. "I don't know who y-"
"Wow dude! She totally beat us up there!" Carlos said cheerfully, interrupting Trey. "Yeah, your a really good singer! Maybe even better then Trey here!" Jason continued.
"Shut up both of you!" Trey erupted
"I...I mean you were okay… Right Jason?"
Jason gives Carlos a questioning look. "What are you talking about? She was...you were okay." he replied after Trey shot him a glare. Trey wanted to say something but was again interrupted. And this time by his manager.
"You!" he says. I look behind my back and then I pointed to myself. He nodded, "Hey you! What's your name? Oh my god. The speed walking trip from that table to here is a really long distance." he puffed.
"That's because you’re fat." I replied in a monotone.
"Beauty is only skin deep."
I poked his stomach while saying; "That's then a long scratch for you buddy." he glared at me while the other two laughed loudly. A couple of people were looking our way. I politely smiled and nudged Carlos and Jason to be quieter. Trey on the other side looked nervous as hell. His eyes were ping-ponging from me to his manager. The thin coat of sweat was already forming on his forehead.
"Don't you have somewhere to be and people to see, Joe?" Trey’s voice was trembling a little, but he hid with a cough. The manager, Joe, ignored him.
"What's your name?"
"Adrianna. Why do you want to know?"
"The question I'm about to ask is probably going to change your life. The music label wants a female voice in the band. And I think that I found the perfect candidate for that... You! So what do you think? Isn't that a dream come true?!"
My mind went black. I only heard Trey’s voice faintly in the background. Why did he pick me? He could have asked Selena Gomez to be that voice instead of me. Joe is the stupidest manager I've ever met. Actually he's the only one. "Imagine Adrianna. If you say yes than you whole world is going to change! You’ll meet other celebrities, you’ll be famous, and have tons of money! I will just come by tomorrow with the contract so that you..."
"I didn't say yes."
"The band wouldn't mind to have another band member in their band. Right guys?"
Carolos and Jason nodded. "Of course not! It actually would be awesome to have you join the..." Carlos didn't get his chance to finish his sentence because Trey cut him off.
“ How could you say that!? She obviously doesn't want to, because she didn't say yes!"
"I...I mean,yeah, I'm with Trey on this one." Carlos said while winking at me.
"Whatever. I'm out." with that Trey disappeared out of the restaurant.
"Now that we got rid of him..." their manager mumbled.”So what do you say Adrianna? Are you joining the band?"
I already made a decision, and frankly, I really don't have another choice.
