The theater lights flickered, then everything went dark and silent. There was not a single sound. Just pitch black anticipation. One light came on. Only one light. It was a spotlight on Dean, who was sitting at a grand piano. He swallowed hard and looked out at the "audience".
"I got this, no problem. Just like at home." He thought, reassuring himself. He looked up at the music and took a deep breath, then let it out.
"Hey, Jude..." He sang, pressing some piano keys. "Don't make it bad. Take a sad song, and make it better." He sang, shutting his eyes.
"Remember, to let her into your heart. Then you can start to make it better." He finished off the first verse, and stopped singing. He stopped playing piano, he stopped everything. Frozen.
"Hey, Jude.." He heard a voice sing, and he stood up. "Don't be afraid." He looked around the stage, and saw someone he hadn't recognized. "You were made to go out and get her."
The stranger stepped out towards the center of the stage, and then to the piano. There was silence for a few seconds, then he sat at the piano, and started playing. "The minute.. you let her under your skin," He sang softly. "Then you begin to make it better."
"And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders." The two boys sang together, one sitting at the piano, the other standing next to him.
They sang the rest of the song just like this, one occasionally taking the lead. And at the end there was silence, no applause. The stranger stood up and smiled at Dean. "I'm Castiel." He extended his arm for a handshake.
Dean smiled back and grabbed his hand, shaking it. "I'm Dea-" "I know. Everyone knows Dean Winchester. But not everyone knows that he stays after school in the theater every day to sing Hey Jude."
Castiel smirks, crossing his arms. "And nobody else needs- wait.. you've heard me every time?" Dean mumbled, raising his eyebrows. "And you haven't said anything until now?" "Well, you have a nice voice. I thought that if I said something you would stop coming."
Dean scoffed, putting his hand on his head. "Every day? W-w-what are you even doing here??" Dean stuttered, furrowing his eyebrows and
standing up."Well, I used to be in theater. So I would stay after to set up props and shit, and sometimes I would stay late enough to hear you singing. Then I quit theater, but I still stay after to listen to you sing. I work on homework, sometimes." Castiel admitted, shrugging and scratching his head.
"Well, I mean, it's kinda weird, you could've just said something." Dean said, walking away. "You aren't coming back tomorrow though, are you?" Castiel asked, still standing by the piano. Dean stopped, and turned his head slightly.
"No."
