The revenants
Prologue
The wind blew slowly like a crib carrying the sweet scent from the white flowers resting on the wooden floors of an abandoned church. The dark clouds painting the sky reluctantly let a crystal drop fall followed by many others. Soon enough, a light rain started to form as its power weakened a silver-haired man. The only shield between him and the rain was his dark leather suit, already soaked as some faint particles of Lifestream emanated from his dying body. Even at his alarming state, he couldn't bear the thought of dying without a fight. His gloved hand clutched the hilt of his beloved double-bladed sword, Souba. With a final attempt, he lunged for his opponent with his katana lifted but his knees couldn't hold his weight any longer. Instead of hitting the hard concrete, he was met with a strong pair of arms.
His eyes opened revealing an emerald color and pupils like slits. He looked across the sky, the grey clouds no more, sunset replacing the dark view. The wind caressed with tenderness the two figures on the floor. His body felt no more pain. Was he dead already? No. He still could see the soft blue eyes of his Big Brother shadowed by golden bangs, almost like spikes.
His mind was fused with thoughts of confusion, and fright. He was sent with a purpose, but now that Sephiroth ceased to exist, his downfall was hard to comprehend. He couldn't face Mother like this. What was his only choice, but surrender and let the Lifestream take him in its grasp?
"Kadaj?"
A sweet voice emerged from the sky calling his name. Its tone laced with gentleness and something that gave the remnant a warm feeling. Still, intrigued and frightened, an almost silent 'huh?' escaped from his dried and pale lips. He wanted to see who could be the holder of such a beautiful voice.
"You don't have to hang any longer. Everyone's waiting for you." A look of uncertainty invaded his gaze. Did Mother come for him to give his child a second chance? Would she finally take him in her kind embrace? Who's waiting for him? Loz and Yazoo?
A single tear fell, and a black gloved hand rose from its resting place wanting to hold onto the outstretched hand of the woman who was calling him. Innocent thoughts swirled in his mind as the corners of his lips raised and formed a warm smile. Blue eyes watched curiously as Kadaj's body slowly started to disintegrate into green dust.
As Kadaj was claimed by the Lifestream, Cloud's inner turmoil ceased too.
