He has been sitting quietly in the crowd.

Chuckling when we sang, but looking on with concern.

Now he stands up and walks to the back of the auditorium where the director and judges have been sitting. I follow.

I'm nervous.

What is going on?

The director smiles.

"Okay. I want you to do it again."

If I thought I'd ever been nervous before, I was wrong!!

I laugh. A timid laugh. A stupid laugh.

But he does too.

We are naturally standing two feet apart.
